Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Niaz (ranked 234 p4p, 488 weight class) and Curtis Rome (ranked 36 p4p, 75 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dick Niaz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niaz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rome swivels and escapes.
Rome throws a right and a left that both miss.
Niaz feinted with a counter takedown.
A jab from Rome misses.
Niaz blocks a head kick by Rome.

Rome closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Niaz to the mat! Niaz manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Rome looking to sit in guard and control but Niaz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rome has control of Niaz's left arm, preventing Niaz from doing any damage.
Rome keeping moving, preventing Niaz from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rome is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Niaz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Niaz has escaped and now he's on top!

Niaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rome swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Our spies down at at MMA Training and Sparring Buddies inform us that Rome has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Rome pulls Niaz in close to his closed guard and prevents Niaz from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Niaz gets caught flat footed, as Rome shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rome has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rome wants to control from the top but Niaz keeps moving.

Rome gets to his feet. Niaz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Rome changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Niaz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rome goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Niaz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rome but great work by Niaz.
