PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sao Alela (ranked 908 p4p, 1788 weight class) and Doko Dokov (ranked 128 p4p, 235 weight class). Alela comes to the cage accompanied by Cryin' Like a Bitch. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sao Alela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 41 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doko Dokov!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dokov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Alela is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Alela has picked Dokov up - he's going for a ride! Alela dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Alela wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dokov keeps working.

Dokov actively working from the bottom here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alela lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Alela wants to pass to mount but Dokov is defending the position.

Dokov lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Dokov tries to roll over but Alela keeps him under control.
Alela is trying to control. Dokov wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dokov misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Dokov has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Alela has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Alela won't let Dokov get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Dokov is looking to improve his position but Alela isn't that keen on the idea.
Dokov is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Alela wants to control the pace but Dokov is squirming around nicely.
Dokov can't escape the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dokov prevents Alela from taking his back.
Alela lands a nice shot to the head.

Dokov is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dokov tries to hold on but Alela pushes him away.

Alela lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Dokov hang on?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alela controlling his opponent.
Dokov is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Alela avoids the attempt from Dokov to control.
Dokov is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Dokov flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Alela tries to control but Dokov wriggling away.
Alela looking to finish Dokov with some ground and pound. This is bad for Dokov!

Dokov squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Dokov tries to lock up and control but Alela gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Alela looking for a guillotine from mount but Dokov is having none of it.
Dokov is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Dokov sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Alela sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dokov defending well though.
Dokov is looking to escape.
Alela trying to control from half guard but Dokov is working away.

Dokov looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sao Alela dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Dokov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alela keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Dokov throws a series of strikes that have Alela backpedaling.
A nice combination there by Alela.

Dokov has Alela up against the cage in a clinch.

Dokov is fighting off a takedown attempt but Alela is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Dokov to the mat. Dokov regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dokov is on top in guard.


Alela scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Dokov fails in his attempt to clinch.
Alela went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Dokov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alela is fending him off so far but Dokov persists. Nope, Alela circles away and we're back to standing.

Dokov drives through and clinches with Alela against the cage.

Alela gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Dokov regains guard.

Dokov uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Alela tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dokov looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Dokov moves into range and clinches up with Alela.
Dokov has Alela pressed against the cage.
Alela lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Alela breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dokov tries to clinch up.
Sao Alela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alela misses with a double jab.
Alela throws a leg kick that misses.
Doko Dokov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alela scores with a head kick.
Dokov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alela tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dokov was well out of range. Poor timing from Alela.
Alela digs a good body shot into Dokov's ribs.

Dokov feints and as Alela raises his hands in defense, Dokov changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dokov lands a couple of decent looking shots.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dokov stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Dokov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Alela avoids it really well and circles away.
Dokov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dokov tries to clinch there but Alela circles away.

Alela fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dokov sprawls well initially but Alela persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Dokov kicks Alela off and gets back to his feet.
Alela misses with a double jab.
Alela scores with a jab.
Alela connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Alela pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Sao Alela is winning the standup battle so far.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Alela as Dokov tries to tie him up.

Alela lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Alela turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Alela tries to move to mount but Dokov blocks the move with his legs.

Alela tries for a kimura but Dokov is defending well.
Dokov is trying to improve his position.
Dokov wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Alela is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dokov can do to turn this around?

Alela slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Dokov.
Dokov throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Dokov taking shots to the head.
Alela lands a big shot there that rocks Dokov but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Alela lands with some strikes.
Dokov is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alela moves to take his opponent's back.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dokov turns into Alela and is now in his guard.

Dokov decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sao Alela dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Alela keeps the fight on the outside.
Dokov looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Dokov has Alela up against the cage in a clinch.
Dokov misses with a short punch on the inside.
Alela misses with a punch on the inside.
Dokov swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Alela lands a hook that snaps the head of Dokov backwards.
Dokov stalling in the clinch.
Dokov tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Alela just stands there and leans against the cage.

Alela wants the takedown. Dokov is fighting it off but Alela persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dokov's guard against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alela stops Dokov from standing up.
Alela landing with the ground and pound.
Sao Alela overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Alela won't allow Dokov to get back to his feet.

Alela wants to pass the guard but Dokov is keeping the position.

Dokov is looking for a triangle here but Alela uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Alela is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dokov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Alela wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dokov keeps working.
Alela prevents Dokov from escaping the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A control attempt from Dokov but he's now mounted!
Dokov wants to hold on but Alela pushes him away.
Dokov keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Doko Dokov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Alela can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dokov is looking to escape.

Alela with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Alela lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Dokov hang on?

Dokov bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Dokov postures up and lands a big shot to Alela's brow.
Dokov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Alela's guard.

Alela manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Sao Alela is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Alela.

Dokov sneaks out the side door and pushes Alela away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dokov cracks Alela with a good jab.

Dokov clinches up against the cage.

Alela is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Dokov can't fight it off and eventually Alela manages to take the fight to the floor. Dokov looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dokov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alela can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Alela controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Dokov throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Dokov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alela gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sao Alela.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alela, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
