Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Oneil (ranked 1023 p4p, 2313 weight class) and Dave Abbott (ranked 126 p4p, 284 weight class). Oneil comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica - Spit Out The Bone. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Oneil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Abbott!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Anthony Taglia and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott takes one on the button.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Abbott has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

letting Oneil counter with a right hand.

and Oneil counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

and Oneil cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Oneil is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Abbott can do anything to dispel that myth.

Oneil looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Oneil is nestled in close to Abbott, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Oneil thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Abbott's head.
Oneil is trying to control the action in half guard but Abbott is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Oneil is looking for a kimura but Abbott is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Oneil to get the leverage.

Abbott really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oneil. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Oneil is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Oneil connects with a nice short shot to Abbott's temple.

Oneil looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Abbott with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Abbott is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Oneil jumps into side control!

Oneil works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Abbott takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Abbott tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Oneil wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Oneil is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Abbott has escaped the position, nice work there.

Oneil connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Abbott some visible discomfort.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Oneil dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Abbott tries for a takedown but Oneil sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Oneil in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Abbott tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Oneil!

After winning the bout, David Oneil thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
