Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joao Santos (ranked 4405 p4p, 3436 weight class) and Jari Sillanpaa (ranked 262 p4p, 214 weight class). Sillanpaa has chosen Jari Sillanpää-Satulinna as his entrance music. Jari Sillanpaa acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joao Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jari Sillanpaa!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Sillanpaa counters with a series of strikes. Santos will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sillanpaa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sillanpaa instigates a clinch.
Sillanpaa pressing his opponent against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Sillanpaa.
Santos fails to pull guard.

Santos pulls guard.
Santos trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sillanpaa lands a couple of digs.
Sillanpaa throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Santos works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Santos controls Sillanpaa momentarily but Sillanpaa frees himself.
Sillanpaa looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Santos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Santos has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Sillanpaa has passed into side control.

Sillanpaa is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Santos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Santos is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Santos is trying to get back to half guard.
Santos is trying to control Sillanpaa's posture but Sillanpaa avoids it.
Sillanpaa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Santos is looking to reverse the position.

Santos is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sillanpaa asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sillanpaa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sillanpaa goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Santos has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sillanpaa but great work by Santos.

Santos has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Santos moves in looking to clinch but Sillanpaa pushes him off.

Sillanpaa closes the distance and clinches.
Sillanpaa with a knee to the head.
Santos is trying to stall.
Santos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sillanpaa walks away with a smile on his face. Santos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Some bone on bone action there as Sillanpaa checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Santos misses with a series of wild punches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jari Sillanpaa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Sillanpaa closes the distance and clinches.

Sillanpaa pulls Santos into guard.

Sillanpaa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well.
Santos keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sillanpaa's head.

Sillanpaa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Santos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sillanpaa wants to hit a sweep here but Santos passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sillanpaa there!
Sillanpaa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Santos tries to control but Sillanpaa wriggling away.

Santos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sillanpaa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Santos has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Sillanpaa's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sillanpaa is trying to escape the mount.
Joao Santos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Santos looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Santos can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sillanpaa is looking to escape.

Santos wants to control but Sillanpaa is keeping him busy.

Santos is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Santos takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Santos fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sillanpaa to the ground. Santos is now in Sillanpaa's guard.
Santos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sillanpaa is proving hard to escape from.
Santos trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sillanpaa is controlling him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Santos fails with the takedown
and Sillanpaa counters with a head kick.
Santos pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Santos shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sillanpaa as he jumps to the side.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Santos dives in for a single leg takedown but Sillanpaa sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joao Santos. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sillanpaa jumps guard and drags Santos to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Santos winds up and cracks Sillanpaa with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Jari Sillanpaa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sillanpaa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
