PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Panfilo Acerbi (ranked 3259 p4p, 5976 weight class) and Charles Lee (ranked 362 p4p, 488 weight class). Acerbi's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Boom Boom Boom Boom - Venga Boys. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Panfilo Acerbi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Charles Lee!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Acerbi.
A lazy left from Lee finds it's target.
Acerbi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lee was well out of range. Poor timing from Acerbi.
Lee ducks under a wild hook from Acerbi.
Lee steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Acerbi.
Lee scores with a jab.
Acerbi misses with an uppercut
and Lee counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Acerbi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Acerbi connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A shot to the liver by Lee. Beautiful body shot.
Lee scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Acerbi misses the shot to the body.
Lee wants to counter with a clinch but Acerbi pushes him away.

Lee darts in and clinches Acerbi up against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Acerbi misses with the head strike.
Acerbi is trying to break the clinch but Lee has him pressed against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Lee creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Lee is working Acerbi over against the cage.
Lee tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Acerbi breaks the clinch.
Acerbi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Acerbi blocks a leg kick.
Lee connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Acerbi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lee manages to avoid it.
Lee scores with a jab.
Lee uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Acerbi.
Lee is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Lee throws a lazy right hand but Acerbi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Lee avoids the body shot from Acerbi.
Acerbi scores with a jab to the body.
Acerbi connects with a body shot that sends Lee's belly button to the back.
Acerbi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Acerbi just misses with a punch to the body.

Lee rushes Acerbi and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lee lands a right hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lee goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Acerbi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lee uses from the top position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Acerbi is on top in guard.

Lee manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Acerbi manages to get himself to full guard.

Acerbi is trying to hold Lee in close to prevent damage but Lee has managed to pass into half guard.
Acerbi tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Lee has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Acerbi is trying desperately to improve position.

Lee prevents Acerbi from getting the reversal.

Lee takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lee fails to advance to Acerbi's back.
Lee is still trying to improve position.
Lee controlling from mount.
Lee is continuing to stall.
Acerbi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Charles Lee dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Acerbi throws a body shot but no joy.
Acerbi is looking to wear down Lee with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Acerbi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Lee misses with an uppercut.
Acerbi thinks about countering with a body kick.
Acerbi moves into range and connects with a jab.
Lee throws a shot from downtown. Acerbi moves away and avoids it.
Lee has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Acerbi misses with the head strike.
Acerbi misses with some punches.
Lee lands with a right to the head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee has a couple of punches blocked by Acerbi.
Acerbi wants to get back to striking at distance but Lee won't allow it.

Lee is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Lee looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Lee moves into full mount! Acerbi won't be happy about that!
Acerbi sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Lee in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are battling for position here. Acerbi manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Acerbi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lee gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Acerbi is trying to control the position but Lee postures up.
Lee controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Charles Lee has got the better of the ground game so far.

Acerbi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lee is one step ahead there.
Lee engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That was a close second round but I would say that Panfilo Acerbi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Acerbi has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Lee.

Acerbi drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lee looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lee looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lee!

Acerbi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lee's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Acerbi tries to roll over but Lee keeps him under control.

Lee is looking to advance position but Acerbi won't allow it.

Lee passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Acerbi!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lee is trying to stick to Acerbi's back but Acerbi is turning into Lee. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Lee's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Acerbi.
Lee has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Acerbi wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.
Lee is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Charles Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Charles Lee decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
