PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Averyanov (ranked 456 p4p, 116 weight class) and Wille Thai (ranked 74 p4p, 20 weight class). Averyanov comes to the cage accompanied by Drago's Entrance Theme. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrei Averyanov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Wille Thai!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thai with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Averyanov to score with a decent uppercut.

It looks like Wille Thai has been cut.
Averyanov pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Thai has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
A head kick misses from Averyanov.
Averyanov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Averyanov misses with a right hand

and Thai counters by moving into the clinch.
Thai is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Averyanov is defending well.
A right hook to the body lands for Averyanov.
Thai goes for a takedown attempt but Averyanov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Thai gets a double leg takedown into Averyanov's guard.

Thai is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Thai drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Averyanov manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Thai has Averyanov in his guard.

Thai is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Averyanov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thai on the ground.

Thai looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Averyanov has picked Thai up and slammed him! Thai can't keep hold of the triangle and Averyanov manages to pass to side control!
Thai gets back to half guard.
Averyanov is looking to advance position but Thai won't allow it.

Thai is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Averyanov pulls his head out easily.

Thai tries to get to full guard but Averyanov has control of the leg.
Thai is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thai works his way to full guard. Good work.

Thai looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Thai is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Averyanov defends well.
Thai manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Averyanov manages to get himself to full guard.

Thai is looking to pass into half guard but Averyanov pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Averyanov is in guard.


Thai had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Averyanov defends it easily.
Averyanov wants to pass the guard but Thai is keeping the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Thai is on top in guard.


Thai postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Averyanov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Thai, into his guard.

Thai looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Wille Thai will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Wille Thai's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Averyanov leaves Thai with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Thai looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Averyanov misses the jab.
Some wild striking there from Averyanov.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Averyanov throws a jab but it's blocked by Thai.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Thai.
Andrei Averyanov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wille Thai.
Thai takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Averyanov throws a hook but Thai blocks it.
Thai tries to counter by closing the distance.
A swing and a miss from Averyanov.
Thai changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Averyanov throws a front kick aimed at Thai's knee but Thai avoids it well.
Averyanov throws a right hand that Thai ducks under and follows up with a left that Thai also avoids with ease.
Thai wants to counter with a clinch but Averyanov pushes him away.

A swing and a miss from Averyanov.
Thai tries to counter by closing the distance.
Thai avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Thai uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Averyanov.

Thai will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Averyanov throws a lazy uppercut

and Thai counters with a nice double leg into side control. Averyanov won't be happy with that.
Wille Thai has got the better of the ground game so far.

Thai looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Thai tries for a kimura but Averyanov is defending well.

Thai is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Averyanov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Thai has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Averyanov!

Thai is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Averyanov can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Thai has isolated one of Averyanov's arms. Averyanov looking to fight him off but Thai twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
