Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Chandler (ranked 3167 p4p, 1903 weight class) and Olan Zapina (ranked 258 p4p, 164 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Chandler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Olan Zapina! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zapina feints and then cracks Chandler's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Chandler down. Zapina tries to clinch up and Chandler counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Zapina connects with a solid leg kick. Zapina throws a lazy uppercut
and Chandler counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Zapina rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Chandler counters with a stiff right hand. A looping hook to the body misses from Zapina. Chandler does a little dance to reset his feet. Chandler misses with a looping right. Chandler backing away here, and Zapina unleashes a leg kick that just misses. Zapina with a nice calf kick. Zapina scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zapina clinches with his opponent.
I was talking to Chandler's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Zapina lands an elbow inside that Chandler shrugs off.
It looks like Mike Chandler has been cut. Zapina lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. A shot in the inside from Zapina. Chandler is trying to force a seperation but Zapina has the dominant position. Chandler blocks an elbow strike. Zapina can't find room to land a body shot as Chandler controls the action.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Zapina tries to work over Chandler's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Chandler blocks an elbow strike from Zapina.

Chandler pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Zapina swings widly with a right hand
and Chandler counters with a stiff right hand. Zapina tries to clinch but Chandler moves away and Chandler counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. A nice leg kick lands there from Zapina.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Zapina turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Chandler on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Zapina. Zapina obviously looking to wear him down.
Zapina throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Chandler throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Chandler paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Chandler misses with a right hand and Zapina counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Chandler uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Zapina. Chandler walks forward, straight into a front kick from Zapina. Zapina tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chandler swats him away and circles back towards the center. It looked like Chandler was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Zapina. Chandler takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zapina throws a lazy head kick and Chandler counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Zapina is looking to slow Chandler down with leg kicks. Zapina has managed to clinch.
Zapina misses with a hook to the ribs.
Zapina misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Zapina pushes Chandler back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Zapina misses with a hook to the ribs.
Zapina digs a right hand underneath Chandler's ribcage. Chandler let out a lung full of air as it connected. Zapina's coach down at Brooklyn Mixed Martial Arts was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Zapina's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Zapina scores with a nice hook to the head. Zapina lands an elbow inside that Chandler shrugs off. Chandler is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Zapina lands an elbow just above Chandler 's eye. A nice glancing elbow lands by Zapina. Chandler is trying to push Zapina away but Zapina has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Chandler's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Zapina steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Chandler. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Chandler throws out a loose jab but Zapina uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zapina throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Zapina scoring well with a low kick there.
Chandler takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. A jab from Chandler misses. Zapina scores with a leg kick.

Zapina closes the distance looking to clinch and Chandler counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Olan Zapina dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mike Chandler's cut. That's time! Back to the action! Chandler connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Chandler closes the distance but Zapina moves to the side enabling Zapina to counter with a crisp jab. Zapina misses with the body kick and Chandler counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Chandler is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Zapina tries to clinch but Chandler moves out of range. Good leg kick by Zapina. Zapina thows a leg kick but Chandler checks it and Chandler counters with a straight right hand. Olan Zapina seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chandler circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chandler was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Zapina has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Zapina lands with an uppercut that bounces Chandler off the cage and back into range.
Chandler is rocked! Zapina lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Oh Chandler is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Zapina chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Zapina and Chandler are patiently standing in front of each other looking for an opening. Zapina throws a head kick. It's landed, knocking Chandler into next week! Ooooh that was huge! Zapina knows it - he's on the cage flexing is biceps. That's a bit weird considering he won by kick but whatever.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Olan Zapina! During a confident post fight interview, Olan Zapina thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
