PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Aalto (ranked 769 p4p, 879 weight class) and Renoa Gracie (ranked 59 p4p, 71 weight class). Gracie has chosen Apaga Mas Não Bate as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michael Aalto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Renoa Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie lands a nice shot that snaps Aalto's head back.
Aalto throws a wild body kick that Gracie sees coming a mile off.
Aalto turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Aalto changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A punch lands to the side of Gracie 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Gracie shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Aalto manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Gracie working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Aalto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Aalto is tightening it up a little... Gracie has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Gracie reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Gracie taps out! Nice BJJ there by Aalto!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Michael Aalto!
