PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Renoa Gracie (ranked 1184 p4p, 1272 weight class) and Alejandro Laguera (ranked 100 p4p, 106 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gracie might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Apaga Mas Não Bate. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alejandro Laguera!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laguera tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

We've been hearing that Gracie has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Gracie wants to take a breather but Laguera is having none of it.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Laguera is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gracie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Laguera with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gracie connects with a nice short shot to Laguera's temple.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Laguera told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Laguera has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though.

Laguera escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gracie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Laguera throws a lazy right hand but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Gracie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gracie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Laguera circles away.

Gracie takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

I would just about give that final round to Alejandro Laguera.
