Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nakagome Kakuzo (ranked 319 p4p, 1761 weight class) and Ian Carter (ranked 42 p4p, 242 weight class). Carter has chosen “Shipping up to Boston” Dropkick Murphy’s as his entrance music. Nakagome Kakuzo is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nakagome Kakuzo! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ian Carter! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kakuzo moves away. Kakuzo misses with a jab, cross combination.
A countering left hand to the body from Carter misses. Carter misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kakuzo moves to clinch but Carter breaks away and Carter makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Kakuzo pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Carter just misses with a punch to the body.
Kakuzo fails to land the takedown. Nice defenses there by Carter. A slapping leg kick lands for Carter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Carter lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
It looks like Nakagome Kakuzo has been cut. Carter takes one on the button. Kakuzo misses with a looping left. Carter drops his hands momentarily and Kakuzo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carter throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kakuzo counters with a right hand to the body. Kakuzo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carter.
Carter is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Kakuzo rather than just go for the knockout. Carter slips a jab from Kakuzo. Kakuzo gets a takedown into half guard. Kakuzo working over Carter with some ground and pound. Carter looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Kakuzo is trying to control. Carter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Kakuzo sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carter defending well though. Carter wants to get back to full guard. Ground and pound from Kakuzo. Kakuzo thows a huge punch but Carter dodges it nicely.
Kakuzo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Kakuzo prevents Carter from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kakuzo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carter with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carter can do anything to dispel that myth. Kakuzo winds up and cracks Carter with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kakuzo is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Carter is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nakagome Kakuzo! Nakagome Kakuzo retains his welterweight title!
