PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nova Lankinen (ranked 806 p4p, 681 weight class) and Patrick Matthew (ranked 113 p4p, 94 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Nova Lankinen has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Nova Lankinen seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nova Lankinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Patrick Matthew!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lankinen on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Matthew misses with an uppercut
and Lankinen counters with a stiff right hand.
Lankinen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Matthew throws a half hearted mid kick.
Lankinen tries to land a front kick but Matthew steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Lankinen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Matthew finds it's way round the side to connect with Lankinen's head.

It looks like Nova Lankinen has been cut.

Matthew moves into range and clinches up with Lankinen.
Lankinen has a couple of punches blocked by Matthew.
Matthew swings wildly with an uppercut but Lankinen uses good head movement to avoid it.

Matthew tries a head kick but it misses.
Lankinen swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Matthew connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Matthew throws a hook to the side of Lankinen's head but Lankinen sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Matthew comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Matthew connects with a good right hand that stumbles Lankinen. Lankinen circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Patrick Matthew seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lankinen throws the left hand but Matthew avoids the punch easily.
Lankinen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Matthew is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lankinen.

Lankinen looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

After the fight, Patrick Matthew was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
