Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Mendes (ranked 1489 p4p, 1014 weight class) and Eric Winston (ranked 207 p4p, 144 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mendes might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Future - Last Breath. Paulo Mendes could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Eric Winston's chin.

The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Mendes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Winston moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A jab lands there for Winston.
A big left from Mendes misses.

Mendes throws an off balance right hand
and Winston counters with a thumping low kick.
Mendes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Winston bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Winston's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Winston duly obliges.

It looks like Paulo Mendes has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendes takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Winston has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Mendes is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Winston lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

and Winston counters with a nice low kick that buckles Mendes's knee momentarily.

Mendes closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Winston did well to prevent Mendes getting side control.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mendes in particular looking to stall.

We've been hearing that Mendes has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Winston throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mendes stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Mendes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Winston throws a big counter head kick but Mendes avoids it with no problem.
Crunch! Winston slams his shin into Mendes's torso.

Winston wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mendes tries to move into range but Winston moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Mendes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Winston lands with a kick to the temple. Mendes shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Winston throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Mendes sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Mendes crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Winston - the referee stops the clock and Mendes gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Winston. Mendes manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Mendes with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Winston to score with a decent uppercut.

Winston thows a body kick. Mendes tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Mendes looks to land a combination. Winston sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Mendes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Winston swivels and escapes.
Winston is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mendes had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.

and Winston counters with a nice body shot.
Winston feints a jab promting Mendes to slip. Winston then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Mendes slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mendes misses with a hook. Winston ducked under it nicely.
Winston lands with a slapping head kick.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Winston counters with a crisp one two that drops Mendes! Winston thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Mendes to his feet! Mendes is in big trouble!
Oh Mendes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Winston closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Mendes! Winston dives in looking to finish! Mendes is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
