Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Liwa Kursiwa (ranked 3431 p4p, 2872 weight class) and Tyrann Madden (ranked 270 p4p, 224 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Liwa Kursiwa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tyrann Madden! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Madden displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kursiwa throws out the jab. Despite the aggression on Madden's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Kursiwa tries to clinch and Madden connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Kursiwa lands a jab to the nose. Kursiwa moves out of range of the strikes. Kursiwa slips a jab from Madden. Tyrann Madden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Madden slaps away a takedown attempt from Kursiwa, before circling back to the center of the mat. Madden lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kursiwa at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kursiwa ducks under a wild hook from Madden. Madden throws an overhand right that lands on Kursiwa's shoulder, as Kursiwa tries to avoid the shot. Kursiwa shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Madden but Madden pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kursiwa stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Madden throws a hook but Kursiwa blocks it. Madden throws an overhand right that lands on Kursiwa's shoulder, as Kursiwa tries to avoid the shot. Kursiwa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Madden is trying to defend but Kursiwa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Kursiwa is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Kursiwa stalling. Kursiwa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Madden is looking to escape. Kursiwa thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Madden's head. Madden is trying to stand up here but Kursiwa is controlling him well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kursiwa missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Kursiwa stops Madden from getting back to his feet.

Kursiwa with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Madden can do anything to dispel that myth. Madden wants to stand back up but Kursiwa manages to pass into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Madden prevents Kursiwa from moving into mount. Kursiwa trying to control the position but Madden is working away. You can see the frustration on Madden's face as Kursiwa controls the position. Kursiwa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kursiwa is looking to take a break and control but Madden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Madden really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kursiwa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Madden is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kursiwa is controlling him well.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Madden keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Liwa Kursiwa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Left hook, right uppercut from Kursiwa. Kursiwa drives through with a takedown into Madden's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Kursiwa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Madden keeping moving, preventing Kursiwa from controlling successfully. Kursiwa content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Madden can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kursiwa controls the pace. Madden is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kursiwa is controlling him. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Liwa Kursiwa dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Kursiwa misses with a hook to the body
and Madden counters with a stiff right hand. Kursiwa cracks Madden with a good jab. Kursiwa steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Madden. Liwa Kursiwa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Kursiwa with a poor takedown and Madden counters with a lovely shot to the body. Kursiwa with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Madden to score with a decent uppercut. Kursiwa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Madden to the mat! Madden manages to get full guard. Kursiwa controlling from the top position. Kursiwa trying to control the position from guard on top but Madden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kursiwa prevents Madden from getting back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kursiwa passes Madden's left leg - he's now in half guard. Kursiwa lands strikes from half guard. Kursiwa is trying to control. Madden wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Kursiwa looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Kursiwa trying to control the action but Madden is working from the bottom. Madden is trying to stand.
Kursiwa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Madden can do to turn this around? Kursiwa seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Madden does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Kursiwa is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Madden doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kursiwa.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Madden jabbing away but nothing is landing. Kursiwa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kursiwa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Madden wants to get back to his feet but Kursiwa drags him back down.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Kursiwa postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Madden is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kursiwa asserts his dominance and retains side control. Kursiwa lands an elbow. Kursiwa working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Madden is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kursiwa landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. And that is the end of the round. Liwa Kursiwa dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round! Kursiwa looks for a takedown but Madden sprawls well. Madden misses with a two punch combination.

Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Madden trying to remain calm as Kursiwa controls from the top position. Kursiwa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Madden has escaped the position, nice work there. Madden wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Kursiwa wants to control but Madden is keeping him busy. Kursiwa cracks Madden with an elbow. That is naaassty. Kursiwa sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Madden is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Madden tries to escape but Kursiwa is in control. Liwa Kursiwa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kursiwa is looking to take a break and control but Madden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Madden takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Kursiwa lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Madden down.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Madden thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kursiwa if he has to take too many more of those.
Madden feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kursiwas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Kursiwa tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Madden was well out of range. Poor timing from Kursiwa. Madden throws a counter combo. Madden gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Kursiwa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Kursiwa won't allow Madden to get back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kursiwa with a flurry of punches that miss.
And that's the end of the fight! Liwa Kursiwa showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kursiwa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
