PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Charles Lee (ranked 1586 p4p, 3099 weight class) and Aljosa Medeiros (ranked 209 p4p, 356 weight class). Medeiros has chosen Sidequest - Chime as his entrance music. Aljosa Medeiros is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Charles Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Aljosa Medeiros!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Medeiros closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Medeiros working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Medeiros controlling the action here.
Medeiros prevents Lee from improving his position.
Medeiros is keen to just control but Lee is a slippery customer.
Medeiros scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Medeiros wants to take a breather but Lee is having none of it.
Medeiros thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lee's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lee is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Medeiros will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

We've been hearing good reports from Lee's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Medeiros is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lee scores with the left hand. Medeiros knows he should have avoided that one.

Lee moves into range and clinches up with Medeiros.
Lee jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Medeiros walks away with a smile on his face. Lee gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Medeiros fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lee manages to avoid it.
Lee seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee lands a nice looking body shot.
Medeiros lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Lee at a distance.
Lee keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Lee appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

That was a close second round but I would say that Charles Lee will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

A looping hook to the body misses from Medeiros. Lee does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lee uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Medeiros has time to react.
Nice uppercut lands for Lee. That snapped Medeiros's head back.

Medeiros shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Let's hope that Medeiros has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
