PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 1000 p4p, 1657 weight class) and Yodsingkhun Sitsongrit (ranked 118 p4p, 188 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 19 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Yodsingkhun Sitsongrit!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sitsongrit throws a shot from downtown. Rome moves away and avoids it.
Sitsongrit lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rome circles away quickly and effectively.
Rome takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Sitsongrit stuffs the takedown attempt from Rome. Rome gets slowly back to his feet.
Rome tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sitsongrit sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rome somewhat.
We've been hearing reports that Rome has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Sitsongrit connects with a crisp jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rome bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Rome changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sitsongrit tries to avoid it but Rome manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sitsongrit to the ground. Sitsongrit escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sitsongrit appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Rome takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Sitsongrit lands a glancing blow to the side of Rome's head.
Sitsongrit has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Rome is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Rome tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sitsongrit defends well and Rome ends up having to push Sitsongrit into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Sitsongrit has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rome is working away from the top position though.
Rome wants to free his trapped foot but Sitsongrit is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rome is looking to pass Sitsongrit's guard but actually Sitsongrit recovers to full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sitsongrit trying to keep a closed guard but Rome is proving a slippery customer.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Rome sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Sitsongrit tries to get to full guard but Rome has control of the leg.

Sitsongrit is looking for a rear naked choke here but Rome reverses the position brilliantly into Sitsongrit's guard!

Rome drops back looking for a leg! Sitsongrit is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sitsongrit manages to kick Rome off! Rome jumps back into Sitsongrit's guard.

Rome tries to free his leg and advance position but Sitsongrit is retaining full guard.

Rome is keen to just control but Sitsongrit is a slippery customer.
Sitsongrit is looking for a sweep. Rome is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rome prevents Sitsongrit from improving his position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Sitsongrit is still trying to improve position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sitsongrit throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Sitsongrit jabs Rome right on the nose. Rome blinks but takes it well.
Rome slips under a jab.
Sitsongrit changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sitsongrit throws the left hand but Rome avoids the punch easily.
Sitsongrit tries to land a front kick but Rome steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

That was a close second round but I would say that Curtis Rome will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Donk. Sitsongrit catches Rome right on the button with a cross.

Sitsongrit lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Rome shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Sitsongrit throws a body kick that misses.
Rome ducks under a wild hook from Sitsongrit.

Rome takes the fight into the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Sitsongrit.

Rome wants to take the fight to the mat but Sitsongrit manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rome is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sitsongrit is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Rome thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Rome is looking to take a break and control but Sitsongrit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rome has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Sitsongrit!

Rome looking for a guillotine from mount but Sitsongrit is having none of it.
Rome in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Rome wants to take Sitsongrit's back here but Sitsongrit is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Rome is looking to work his way around to Sitsongrit's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Rome fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Sitsongrit is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sitsongrit is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sitsongrit wants to control but Rome is having none of it.

Rome is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sitsongrit has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sitsongrit!

Rome is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rome utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Yodsingkhun Sitsongrit comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sitsongrit has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
