PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack McScramble (ranked 2324 p4p, 2089 weight class) and Shingen Takeda (ranked 195 p4p, 178 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Takeda's choice of entrance music: Now We Are Free. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack McScramble!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shingen Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takeda throws the left hand but McScramble avoids the punch easily.
McScramble lands a jab to the nose.

McScramble fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Takeda to the ground. McScramble is now in Takeda's guard.
Takeda looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but McScramble puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Takeda actively working from the bottom here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Takeda is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Takeda manages to work his way to half guard, despite McScramble's best efforts.
Takeda has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McScramble is working away from the top position though.
We've been hearing good reports from McScramble's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The fighters are battling for position here. Takeda manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Takeda is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McScramble is aware though and is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takeda is looking for a sweep. McScramble is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Takeda is looking to control McScramble's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Takeda avoid being mounted?
McScramble is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

McScramble uses his free foot to push down on Takeda's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Takeda.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Takeda is in all sorts of trouble here.
McScramble trying to control but Takeda is having none of it.
Takeda is trying to escape the mount.

Takeda is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
McScramble can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Takeda is looking to escape.
Takeda tries to hold on but McScramble pushes him away.

That's time! McScramble's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

McScramble on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

McScramble seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Takeda for as long as he can get away with.
Takeda throws an elbow that doesn't really do any damage.
Shingen Takeda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Takeda tries to buck McScramble off but McScramble is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McScramble changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Takeda looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

McScramble remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well McScramble has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
