PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Payne (ranked 4155 p4p, 4166 weight class) and Walter Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 440 weight class). Payne kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is "Bring Out Your Dead" Strung Out. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walter Conway!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conway misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Payne lands a head shot.
Conway tries to clinch up.
A little feinted left hand from Payne on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Conway thows a leg kick but Payne checks it
and Payne counters with a left and a right that stings Conway.

Conway moves into range and clinches up with Payne.
Conway is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Payne working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Payne swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Payne lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Conway or not.

Conway has picked Payne up - he's going for a ride! Conway dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Payne avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Conway.
Conway seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Conway seems to be looking for submissions.

Conway is looking for a kimura but Payne is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Conway to get the leverage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Conway gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Conway closes the distance but Payne moves to the side
and Payne counters with a nice uppercut.

Conway stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Payne to get to his feet.

Payne might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Conway wants to pass the guard but Payne is defending well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Conway has Payne up against the cage in a clinch.
Payne misses with a body punch.

Conway gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Conway is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Payne wants to get back to full guard.

Conway tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Conway has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Conway stands up and beckons Payne to his feet.
Payne moves out of range of the body kick from Conway.
Walter Conway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Conway changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Payne looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Payne gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Payne slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Conway must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Conway has gone for a leg lock! Payne slips out almost immediately though and dives into Conway's guard.

Conway looking to hit a scissor sweep but Payne is one step ahead there.
Payne trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Conway kicks Payne off and gets to his feet.

Payne connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Payne with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Conway closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Conway lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Payne circles away quickly and effectively.
A quick step to the side and Payne tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Conway gets a clinch.
Payne tries to pull guard but Conway holds him up against the cage and eventually Payne drops back down to his feet.
Payne tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Conway's elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Payne misses with a punch to the body.

Conway breaks from the clinch.
Walter Conway is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Payne circles away from the clinch attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Walter Conway comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Conway winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
