Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chen Mei (ranked 2209 p4p, 3198 weight class) and Jay Read (ranked 282 p4p, 393 weight class). Read has chosen Fight Music as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jay Read was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chen Mei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jay Read!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mei throws a head kick that misses.
Read swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Mei tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've been told by Mei's head coaches at The Devil’s Playground that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Read displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mei throws out the jab.
Read clinches.
Read has Mei pressed against the cage, preventing Mei from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Read using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mei has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Read tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Mei wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Read has him pressed against the cage.

Read's coach down at Gold Samurai's Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Read's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Nice straight punches there by Read. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Read.

Mei swings and misses with a hook to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Read is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
