Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Rush - Subdivisions. Mike Smith could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Hamed Juniorss's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Smith!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hamed Juniorss!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Smith catches Juniorss right on the button with a cross.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Juniorss as he jumps to the side.
Juniorss throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Smith appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Smith lands a lovely overhand right.
Juniorss looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Juniorss ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Juniorss napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smith misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Juniorss really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Smith is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ground and pound from Smith seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Juniorss is trying to get back to half guard.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Juniorss is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith lands a few punches from side control.
Juniorss is letting Smith control him for a moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Juniorss can do anything to dispel that myth.
An elbow from Smith crashes against the mat.

Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Juniorss, who protects the arm well.
Smith has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Juniorss gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Juniorss is in all sorts of trouble here.
Smith throwing strikes but Juniorss uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Smith seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Juniorss defending well though.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Smith looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Smith misses with a head shot. Juniorss uses the momentum to regain guard.

Smith missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Smith lands a couple of elbows.
Smith in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Juniorss is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smith controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Smith chips away with some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Smith is in close to Juniorss's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Juniorss utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Smith sitting in guard here, content to control.
Juniorss has his hands on Smith's head, controlling the position.
Smith throws a strike but Juniorss rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Smith seems keen to control Juniorss's posture.

Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Juniorss defends it easily.
Smith pulls Juniorss in to control the position.

That's five minutes gone in the round.

Smith has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Juniorss should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Smith has tightened it up now! Juniorss should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
