PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Demarcus Flatendo (ranked 3128 p4p, 1909 weight class) and Methuselah Honeysuckle (ranked 402 p4p, 276 weight class). Honeysuckle has chosen Dropkick Murphy's - Warriors Code as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Honeysuckle misses its intended target.
Honeysuckle moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Flatendo misses the target.
Flatendo scores with the left hand. Honeysuckle knows he should have avoided that one.
Honeysuckle jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Flatendo seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Honeysuckle tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Demarcus Flatendo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Honeysuckle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

We've been told by Flatendo's head coaches at The Jungle Room that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Flatendo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Honeysuckle lands with a hook. Flatendo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Despite the aggression on Honeysuckle's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Honeysuckle lands a nice shot that snaps Flatendo's head back.

Honeysuckle drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Honeysuckle is rocked!

Flatendo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Honeysuckle, pushing him back against the cage.
Flatendo misses with a short punch on the inside.
Honeysuckle's coach down at Cobra Kai Workout Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Honeysuckle's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Honeysuckle lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Honeysuckle pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Honeysuckle lands a head kick. Flatendo smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Honeysuckle scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Flatendo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Honeysuckle uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Flatendo.
Flatendo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Honeysuckle is still on wobbly legs! Can Flatendo finish him?
Flatendo ducks down and throws a big overhand right - it lands flush on the jaw, knocking Honeysuckle out cold! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Demarcus Flatendo!
Demarcus Flatendo really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Northern Zombie logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
Methuselah Honeysuckle was interviewed post fight and said 'A bump in the road, I'll be back better and hungrier!'.
