PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryu Akutagawa (ranked 648 p4p, 218 weight class) and David Hanson (ranked 81 p4p, 30 weight class). Hanson has chosen Subcouds - on red as his entrance music. Ryu Akutagawa is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryu Akutagawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, David Hanson!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akutagawa takes a swing at Hanson's ribcage but misses.
Akutagawa throws a lazy head kick

and Hanson moves into the clinch.
Akutagawa doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Hanson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hanson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Akutagawa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Akutagawa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryu Akutagawa will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hanson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Akutagawa looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Akutagawa looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Akutagawa!
