Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maverick Calhoun (ranked 5363 p4p, 5786 weight class) and Blaze Weeks (ranked 434 p4p, 449 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calhoun gets a clinch.
Weeks looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Weeks jumps guard but Calhoun stands there with Weeks around his waist. Weeks gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Calhoun has had enough of the clinch but Weeks keeps him there for the moment.
Calhoun is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Calhoun has Weeks pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Calhoun pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Weeks tumbling to the mat - Calhoun dives into Weeks's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Calhoun had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Weeks defends it easily.

Calhoun is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Weeks can do to turn this around?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Calhoun is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Calhoun kicks Weeks off and gets to his feet.

Calhoun feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Weeks gets tackled into the cage by Calhoun. Calhoun maintains the clinch.
Calhoun drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Weeks tries to pull guard but Calhoun won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Calhoun manages to break the clinch.

Weeks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Calhoun counters with a one-two to the body.

Maverick Calhoun overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Calhoun seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Calhoun connects with a nice short shot to Weeks's temple.
Calhoun takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Weeks won't allow Calhoun to pass to mount.
