PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kuromiya Hiro (ranked 340 p4p, 1742 weight class) and Destin Craven (ranked 25 p4p, 137 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kuromiya Hiro!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Destin Craven!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiro loads up on a big right hand but Craven slips the punch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Craven has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Craven lands a jab to Hiro's midsection.
Craven moves out of range as Hiro strikes.
A shot to the liver by Craven. Beautiful body shot.
Craven misses with a head kick.
Hiro slips under a jab from Craven.
Craven rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hiro moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Hiro darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Craven misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've been told by Hiro's head coaches at Canadian Elite Bruins Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Craven shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hiro's guard.
Hiro is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Craven dives into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hiro wants to get back to his feet but Craven drags him back down.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hiro is trying to buck Craven off.
Craven postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Hiro is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Craven tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Craven has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hiro stops Craven from passing to mount.

Hiro explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Kuromiya Hiro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Craven uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hiro.

Craven scores with a takedown into Hiro's guard.

Hiro kicks Craven off and gets to his feet.
Hiro feints and then cracks Craven's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Craven down.

Craven takes one to the side of the head.
Craven tries a head kick but it misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hiro throws a looping overhand right but Craven ducks down to avoid it.
Craven lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Hiro is looking to score with low kicks.
Craven throws out a counter right but Hiro avoids it with no problem.
Craven goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Craven manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hiro on his heels. He'll look to pass Hiro's guard now, I'm sure.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hiro can't keep his opponent in guard - Craven advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Craven has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Craven passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hiro!
Hiro is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Craven wants to control the pace but Hiro is squirming around nicely.
Craven with shots to the head and body - Hiro looks very uncomfortable down there.

Craven scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Hiro squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Craven is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Hiro has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Craven jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hiro manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Craven is chipping away with strikes.
Hiro wants to get back to his feet but Craven drags him back down.

Craven is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hiro has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hiro tries to escape but Craven is in control.

Craven thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Craven prevents Hiro from escaping the position.

Hiro bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Destin Craven dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Craven throws a head kick that misses.
Craven throws a sloppy body shot
and Hiro makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Hiro moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Craven uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Craven scores with a jab to the head.
Craven steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hiro.
Hiro scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Hiro thuds his right hand into Craven's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Craven is rocked!
Craven scores with a shot to the body.
Hiro is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Craven.
Hiro has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hiro there as he acknowledges the shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Craven throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Craven steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hiro.
Craven moves away from the strike by Hiro.
Craven lands with an uppercut that bounces Hiro off the cage and back into range.
Craven throws an off balance right hand
and Hiro counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Craven throws a sloppy head kick and Hiro moves out of range easily.
A quick step to the side and Hiro tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hiro throws out a leg kick but Craven moves out of range and Hiro only half commits.
Destin Craven seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Craven just misses with a punch to the body.
Hiro throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Craven cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Craven throws a leg kick but Hiro sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Destin Craven is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Craven works the jab nicely.
Craven fails to land the takedown.
Craven lands a head kick. Hiro smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Craven tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Craven connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hiro's hands.
Hiro misses with an uppercut. Craven saw that one coming.
Craven throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hiro throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Craven unleashes a big counter combination but Hiro bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Hiro attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Craven drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hiro defends it well.
Hiro avoids a punch combination nicely.

Hiro lands a big uppercut and Craven crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Craven looks OK. Hiro waves Craven back to his feet!
Craven is still on wobbly legs! Can Hiro finish him?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hiro weaves into range and cracks Craven right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Craven goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Hiro is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kuromiya Hiro!

Kuromiya Hiro very nearly forgot to thank Ma Balls Is Hot Clothing amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
