Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Richards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Diego Compton!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Compton fails with the takedown.
Compton lands a head kick!
Compton dives in for a single leg takedown but Richards sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Compton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Richards seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

You can see the frustration on Compton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Compton is looking to regain half guard here but Richards keeps moving and retains side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Compton can do anything to dispel that myth.
Compton is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Richards seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Compton for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Richards definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Richards closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Compton quickly recovers to half guard.
Richards wants to pass to mount but Compton is defending the position.

Richards won't allow Compton to sweep him here.

Richards slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Richards frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Compton tries to lock up and control but Richards gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Compton is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Compton shoots for a double leg takedown but Richards sprawls well. He's pushed Compton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Richards throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Compton's waist but Compton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Richards off to one side.
Richards dives in and grabs Compton's left leg, looking for a takedown. Compton pushes down on Richards's head and hops out.
Billy Richards seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Richards shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Richards tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Compton stops Richards from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Richards sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Compton is trying to escape the mount but Richards keeps good control and instead manages to take Compton's back.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Richards has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Compton tries to break free.
Richards is riding his opponent, not letting Compton buck him off.
Compton is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Richards, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
