Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dan Gable (ranked 1242 p4p, 2634 weight class) and Better Dead (ranked 151 p4p, 291 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Gable!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Better Dead!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dead misses with a looping left.
Gable appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
The crowd cheers as Gable lands an impressive looking overhand right. Dead doesn't seem phased though.
Dead swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dead rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gable moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gable blocks a jab.
Gable appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Dead lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gable circles away quickly and effectively.
Gable feinted with a counter takedown.
Gable attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Gable connects with a good right hand that stumbles Dead. Dead circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Gable connects with a right hand. Dead shakes it off.
Gable blocks a jab.
Gable appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Dead falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gable counters with a takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dead tries to improve position but can't.

Gable is trying to get an arm triangle but Dead is defending well.
Gable controlling the position.
Dead is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dead is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Gable working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
A lull in the action here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gable has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gable tries to score with some ground and pound. Dead controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Gable misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Gable slows the pace down.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The ground and pound from Gable seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Dead gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Dead tries to roll over but Gable keeps him under control.
Gable looks to land a strike but Dead avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Dead looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Gable looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gable stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dead swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dead has control of Gable's left arm, preventing Gable from doing any damage.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gable sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dead's guard.
Gable has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gable is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Dead throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gable appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Gable avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gable tries to counter with a takedown but Dead is quick to defend against it.
Gable ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Dead misses with a lunging right hand

and Gable counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Gable is thwarting Dead's attempts to control the position.
Dead tries to kick Gable off but Gable keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Gable is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dead is trying to stand.
Dead is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gable trying to pass the guard but Dead defending well.
Gable passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gable lands a big shot there that rocks Dead but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Dead is trying to escape the mount.
Gable controlling from the full mount.
Dead has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Dan Gable overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gable seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dead for as long as he can get away with.
Gable in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

It looks like Better Dead has been cut.
Gable looking to control but Dead is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Dead wants to control but Gable is having none of it.

Gable takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We've been hearing that Gable has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Gable looking to control but Dead is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Dead tries to lock up and control but Gable gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Dead sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Gable has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Gable sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Gable dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Better Dead's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Dead misses with a body shot.
Dead thuds his right hand into Gable's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

It looks like Dan Gable has been cut.
Dead showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gable.
Dead misses with an uppercut.
Dead misses the jab.
Dead takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Dead throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dead throws a hook but Gable blocks it.
Dead throws a poor cross that misses

so Gable counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gable stays in close to Dead's body and controls the position.
Gable advances to half guard.
Gable is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Dead is trying to maintain the position but Gable is very close to passing his half guard.
Gable is keen to just control but Dead is a slippery customer.
Gable wants to pass to mount but Dead is defending the position.
Dead is staying active underneath Gable, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gable wants to free his trapped foot but Dead is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Gable missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Better Dead has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gable prevents Dead from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gable controlling the pace.
Dead gets back to full guard.
Gable pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dead is keeping the position for now.
Gable loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gable connects with a single shot there.
Gable moves out of range as Dead strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jab from Dead.
Good standup being displayed there by Dead as he connects with a hook.
Gable moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Gable slips a straight right by Dead.
Gable drops down looking for a counter takedown but Dead sprawls and moves away.
Gable moves away from the strike by Dead.
Dead takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Dead throws a poor cross that misses

and Gable decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dead's guard.
Gable might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gable drops back looking for a leg! Dead is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dead manages to kick Gable off! Gable jumps back into Dead's guard.
Gable sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Gable.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dead holds on and takes a little breather.
Gable trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gable seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dan Gable.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gable, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
