Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Boy Walton (ranked 257 p4p, 169 weight class) and Daniel Spong (ranked 34 p4p, 21 weight class). Daniel Spong has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Boy Walton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 20 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Spong! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walton throws a looping overhand right but Spong ducks down to avoid it. Spong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walton as he jumps to the side. Walton fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Spong on the side of the head. Spong's jab looks to have found its range, popping Walton under the eye. Walton misses with a head kick.
Spong looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. A cross from Walton lands. Spong's corner calls for a 1-2. Spong obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Walton tries to sprawl but Spong drives through with a takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Spong scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Spong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Spong slips a nice elbow through Walton's hands, connecting with Walton's forehead. Walton is trying to maintain the position but Spong is very close to passing his half guard. Spong is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Spong thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Walton's head. Spong landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Spong lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Walton trying to hold on to Spong's head to control him but Spong postures up.
Spong throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Spong looks to land a strike but Walton avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Spong is working Walton over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Walton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Spong doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Spong manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Spong trying to control but Walton is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Spong lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Spong landing some decent shots from guard. Spong sitting in guard here, content to control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Spong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Walton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Spong has managed to get both his arms back between Walton's legs - danger averted. Spong throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Spong scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Spong trying to control but Walton is working from the bottom. Walton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Walton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Spong working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Spong pushing down on Walton's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Walton is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Spong scores with a couple of nice shots. Spong is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Spong wants to pass to mount but Walton is defending the position. Spong prevents Walton from improving his position. Spong thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Spong trying to mount his opponent but Walton defends it. Spong thows a huge punch but Walton dodges it nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Walton is trying to get back to full guard. Walton taking some punishment here, with Spong in his half guard. Spong working the head and body with strikes. Walton wants to get back to full guard. Walton is looking to control Spong's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Walton avoid being mounted? Walton slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Spong postures up.
Spong cracks Walton with a solid left hand. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Spong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Walton swivels though and keeps the full guard. Walton working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spong. Walton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Daniel Spong dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Spong dives in and grabs Walton's left leg, looking for a takedown. Walton pushes down on Spong's head and hops out. Spong scores with a nice right hand.
Walton lets loose with a powerful body kick. Spong will feel that in the morning. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Spong. Spong throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Walton's waist but Walton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Spong off to one side. John Boy Walton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Spong. Walton throws a body kick that misses and Spong counters with a takedown into side control. Walton is trying to improve his position. Walton is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Spong's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Spong prevents Walton from improving his position. Spong trying to advance position but Walton counters by regaining guard. Spong trying to control but Walton is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spong keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Walton's head. Spong landing with the ground and pound. Spong has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Walton pulls Spong in close to prevent any damage. Walton controls Spong momentarily but Spong frees himself. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spong accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Spong content to stall in guard here. Spong trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Walton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Spong is aware though and is defending well. Walton pulls Spong in close to prevent any damage. Spong postures up and lands a big shot to Walton's brow. Spong tries to free his leg and advance position but Walton is retaining full guard. Spong landing with the ground and pound. Spong passes into half guard. Spong working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Spong prevents Walton from improving his position. Spong scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Walton is rocked!
It looks like John Boy Walton has been cut. Spong creates some space for himself and unloads with a monster right hand! That one landed with a sickening thud - Walton is out cold and this one is all over! Spong climbs onto the cage to celebrate with his corner!! He's shouting something into the camera but he's still got his mouthpiece in so God knows what he's actually saying.
