PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 963 p4p, 1563 weight class) and Marski Martola (ranked 121 p4p, 195 weight class). Howlett's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Indestructible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Howlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marski Martola!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Ron Honeybunn and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howlett throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Martola's waist but Martola gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Howlett off to one side.
Martola looks to land a left hand but Howlett moved out of range nicely.
Martola thuds his right hand into Howlett's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Howlett scores with a takedown into Martola's guard.

Martola looking for a guillotine here but Howlett defends easily.
Martola pulls Howlett in to control the position.

Howlett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Martola has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Howlett has managed to get both his arms back between Martola's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Howlett loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Howlett slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Howlett is pushing down on Martola's leg trying to pass to half guard. Martola is fighting to maintain full guard but Howlett has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Howlett frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Howlett trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Howlett is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Martola to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Martola shrugs it off.
Martola keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Howlett wants to take Martola's back here but Martola is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Martola working to try and regain half guard.
Martola looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Martola is really stuck here.
Howlett tries to keep control of the position but Martola is staying busy.
Martola trying to control the action but Howlett just sinks the hooks in.

Howlett is hanging on to Martola's back as he tries to escape.

Martola tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Martola tries to reverse the position but Howlett maintains control.

Howlett has control of Martola's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Martola regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Martola tries to hold on but Howlett pushes him away.

Howlett is working for a guillotine from mount but Martola frees his head quite easily.

Martola tries to improve his position but Howlett has taken his back! Howlett has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Martola tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Howlett pushes Martola away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). James Howlett!
James Howlett seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
