PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Damian Tonon (ranked 1289 p4p, 1182 weight class) and Marski Martola (ranked 165 p4p, 153 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damian Tonon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marski Martola!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tonon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tonon jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Tonon scores with a jab to the body.
Tonon paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Martola lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Martola has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Tonon closes the distance and pushes Martola back into the cage.
Tonon is trying to drag Martola to the mat but Martola just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Martola swings away with an uppercut that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tonon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Martola gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

We've been hearing good reports from Tonon's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tonon performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Tonon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Martola is in trouble now - Tonon has advanced to mount!
Martola is trying desperately to improve position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tonon jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Martola is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Martola and Tonon has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

It looks like Damian Tonon has been cut.

Martola shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tonon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martola manages to get himself to full guard.

Martola must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Martola is fighting to break Tonon's control of his arms but Tonon is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tonon feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Martolas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Tonon stuns Martola with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close second round but I would say that Damian Tonon will probably get the nod.

Martola fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tonon sprawls well initially but Martola persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tonon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Tonon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Martola moves away.
Tonon lands with a nice body punch.
Tonon goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Tonon throws a looping overhand right but Martola ducks down to avoid it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Martola displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tonon.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Damian Tonon.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tonon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
