PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anton Krylov (ranked 238 p4p, 739 weight class) and Jack Ryan (ranked 26 p4p, 83 weight class). Jack Ryan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Krylov!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryan missing with a left hand there. Krylov was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Ryan jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Krylov drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ryan sprawls and moves away.
Krylov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ryan defends it nicely.
Krylov keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ryan.
Krylov fails with a takedown attempt.
Ryan looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Ryan takes a swing at Krylov's ribcage but misses.
Horrible takedown attempt by Krylov or perhaps it was just good defense by Ryan, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anton Krylov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Krylov displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ryan throws out the jab.

Krylov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ryan sprawls well initially but Krylov persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Krylov is working for a kimura but Ryan is defending it quite comfortably.
Krylov is pressing down on Ryan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ryan is holding on for now.

Krylov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ryan is just riding it out for now. Krylov eventually gives up the hold.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Krylov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ryan keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Krylov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ryan is just riding it out for now. Krylov eventually gives up the hold.
Krylov takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Krylov is looking to take a break and control but Ryan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Krylov is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ryan!
Krylov wants to control the pace but Ryan is squirming around nicely.
Ryan felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Krylov wants to finish this one by submission but Ryan is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Krylov.

Krylov looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Krylov is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ryan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ryan shrugs it off.

Krylov tries to control but Ryan wriggling away.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Krylov looking to secure an arm triangle but Ryan defends it well.
Krylov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ryan is looking to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Krylov is really struggling to control Ryan but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Krylov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ryan pinned against the cage. Ryan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Ryan misses with a looping right.
Krylov lands with an overhand left.
A lazy left from Ryan finds it's target.
Krylov takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Ryan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ryan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Krylov sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Krylov changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Ryan scores with the left hand. Krylov knows he should have avoided that one.
Jack Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Krylov displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ryan throws out the jab.

Ryan misses with a wild body shot.
Ryan throws a hook to the side of Krylov's head but Krylov sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Krylov half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

and Ryan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Ryan lands with a cross.
A swing and a miss from Ryan.
Krylov catches Ryan with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Ryan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Krylov, pushing him back against the cage.
Krylov is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ryan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Krylov takes a shot to the head.
A head punch on the inside from Ryan fails to land.
Krylov drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ryan gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anton Krylov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krylov's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Ryan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Krylov has Ryan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Krylov pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Ryan tumbling to the mat - Krylov dives into Ryan's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Krylov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ryan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ryan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ryan!

Krylov sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Krylov is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Ryan jumps into side control!

Ryan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Krylov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ryan is not content to let Krylov control the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ryan can do anything to dispel that myth.

A close third round but Jack Ryan just about did enough to take it.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Krylov moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jack Ryan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Krylov shoots in and drives through. Ryan sprawls well.
Ryan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Krylov shoots in for a double leg but Ryan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ryan just misses with a punch to the body.
Ryan misses with a wild body shot.
Krylov takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Krylov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ryan's waist but Ryan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Krylov off to one side.

Krylov postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ryan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Krylov, into his guard.

Ryan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Krylov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ryan has managed to get both his arms back between Krylov's legs - danger averted.
Ryan tries to free his leg and advance position but Krylov is retaining full guard.

Ryan is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Krylov has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Ryan is looking to defend but Krylov has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Ryan! Krylov pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Ryan taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Anton Krylov!

Our winner, Anton Krylov, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
