Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Liwa Kursiwa (ranked 1486 p4p, 3569 weight class) and Tyrann Madden (ranked 103 p4p, 221 weight class). Tyrann Madden has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Liwa Kursiwa's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Liwa Kursiwa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tyrann Madden!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kursiwa ducks under a wild hook from Madden.
Madden looks to land a combination but Kursiwa avoids it well.
Kursiwa tries to counter by clinching up but Madden breaks away and moves out of range.

Kursiwa manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Madden on his heels. He'll look to pass Madden's guard now, I'm sure.
Madden is looking to stand up but Kursiwa isn't so interested in that idea.

Madden really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kursiwa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kursiwa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kursiwa cracks Madden with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kursiwa throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Madden works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kursiwa passes Madden's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kursiwa throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Madden to regain full guard.
Kursiwa is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kursiwa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Madden wants to stand but Kursiwa is controlling the position.
Kursiwa chips away with some ground and pound.

Kursiwa stays in close to Madden's body and controls the position.

Kursiwa is looking to take a break and control but Madden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Madden pushes Kursiwa off but Kursiwa dives into side control.
Madden is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kursiwa is controlling him well.
Kursiwa works to advance to full mount. Madden defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Madden takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Kursiwa lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kursiwa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Madden is looking to escape.

Kursiwa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Madden moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Madden swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Madden misses with a looping left.
Madden throws a big shot that misses.
Kursiwa is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Madden.
Kursiwa shoots for a double leg takedown but Madden sprawls well. He's pushed Kursiwa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Madden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kursiwa manages to avoid it.
Tyrann Madden is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Madden looks to land a left hand but Kursiwa moved out of range nicely.
Liwa Kursiwa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Madden, as that shot connected.
Madden throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kursiwa tries to counter by clinching up but Madden breaks away and moves out of range.

Kursiwa shoots in and bounces Madden off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Kursiwa wants to control from the top but Madden keeps moving.

Kursiwa passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Kursiwa cracks Madden with a big right hand but Madden just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Madden can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kursiwa goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Madden has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kursiwa but great work by Madden.

Madden is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kursiwa has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Madden felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Kursiwa is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Madden looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kursiwa gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Madden is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kursiwa lets go of the hold and Madden can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Liwa Kursiwa!
An out of breath Liwa Kursiwa thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
