Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Deer Hunter (ranked 1311 p4p, 922 weight class) and Dick Niaz (ranked 147 p4p, 100 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Deer Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dick Niaz!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter throws the left hand but Niaz avoids the punch easily.
Niaz drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hunter defends it well.
A clash of legs there as Niaz blocks the low kick.
Niaz is looking to clinch but Hunter is avoiding it.
Niaz is looking to clinch.
Hunter lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Niaz wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Niaz avoids the body shot from Hunter.
Hunter throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Niaz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Niaz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Hunter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Niaz on the ground.

Niaz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hunter knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hunter wants to control but Niaz is keeping busy.
Hunter on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hunter tries to get out of the position.

Niaz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hunter is just riding it out for now. Niaz eventually gives up the hold.

Niaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hunter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Niaz.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Niaz passes to side control.

Niaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hunter is looking to regain half guard here but Niaz keeps moving and retains side control.

Hunter is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Niaz's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Niaz is looking to advance position but Hunter won't allow it.
Hunter is in trouble now - Niaz has advanced to mount!
Niaz avoids the attempt from Hunter to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Niaz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hunter to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hunter shrugs it off.

Hunter tries to reverse the position but Niaz maintains control.
Hunter is working hard here to advance position.
Niaz moves to the back.

Niaz patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hunter trying to control the hands but Niaz won't let him.

Hunter is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Niaz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Niaz tries to clinch but Hunter moves out of range.
Niaz tries for a takedown but Hunter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Niaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hunter swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Deer Hunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunter slaps away a takedown attempt from Niaz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
It looked like Hunter was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Niaz.
Hunter throws a head kick but Niaz moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Niaz is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

so Niaz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Hunter looking to control but Niaz passes into half guard.
Niaz wants to take a breather but Hunter is having none of it.

Hunter has his hands clasped together around Niaz's back. He's all about the action.
Hunter is pressing down on Niaz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Niaz is pushing down on Hunter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hunter is fighting to maintain full guard but Niaz has managed to sneak the leg through.

Niaz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hunter is looking to improve his position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Niaz performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Hunter is staying active underneath Niaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hunter tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Niaz has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Niaz looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Niaz fails to take his opponent's back.
Hunter is wriggling around trying to escape.
Niaz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Hunter is controlling an arm, preventing Niaz from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Niaz goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hunter turns into him and now he's in Niaz's guard.
Niaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hunter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Niaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Niaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Hunter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Hunter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Niaz.
Niaz slips a straight right by Hunter.
Niaz tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Niaz closes the distance and clinches up with Hunter, looking for a takedown. Niaz pushes Hunter against the cage but Hunter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hunter half committed to a counter leg kick.
Hunter scores with a spinning back kick!
Hunter throws a head kick but Niaz moves out of range.
Niaz takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Niaz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Deer Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dick Niaz.

Niaz ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Hunter jabs Niaz right on the nose. Niaz blinks but takes it well.

Hunter throws a shot from downtown. Niaz moves away and avoids it.
Hunter misses with a lunging right hand

and Niaz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Niaz.
Hunter wants to control but Niaz passes easily into half guard.
Hunter wants to control but Niaz is keeping busy.
Niaz trying to control from half guard but Hunter is working away.
Niaz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hunter haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hunter is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Niaz has latched onto it... Big trouble! Niaz pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Hunter is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Niaz!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dick Niaz!
During a confident post fight interview, Dick Niaz thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
