Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Casey Peterson (ranked 1271 p4p, 778 weight class) and Jesse-James Hopson (ranked 101 p4p, 61 weight class). Hopson is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Home among the gumtrees.. Jesse-James Hopson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jesse-James Hopson!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Peterson walks into a straight right hand from Hopson.
Peterson avoids the body shot from Hopson.
Hopson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Hopson gets the takedown into side control.
Peterson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hopson is controlling the pace.
Peterson's coaches at THUD! have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Peterson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hopson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peterson tries to buck Hopson off but Hopson is having none of it.

Hopson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Hopson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Peterson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Peterson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hopson finds it's way round the side to connect with Peterson's head.

Hopson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hopson lands in his opponent's guard.

Hopson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Peterson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hopson has managed to get both his arms back between Peterson's legs - danger averted.

Hopson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hopson working over Peterson with some ground and pound. Peterson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hopson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Peterson is looking to get back to full guard here but Hopson has managed to pass to side control instead.

Jesse-James Hopson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hopson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Peterson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hopson is in Peterson's guard.
Hopson stands and throws Peterson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Peterson tries to bench press Hopson off him but Hopson keeps the position.

Hopson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Peterson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hopson working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Peterson is looking for a sweep.
The referee asks Hopson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hopson prefers to stall for the moment though.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Hopson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well Hopson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
