PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fotos Hasapis (ranked 407 p4p, 1112 weight class) and Danny Davis (ranked 47 p4p, 138 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fotos Hasapis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Davis!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hasapis scores with a leg kick.
Davis fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Davis misses with a wild combination.
Hasapis with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Davis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hasapis uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Davis.
Hasapis drops down looking for a counter takedown but Davis sprawls and moves away.

Davis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Davis lands a left hand.
Davis has a couple of punches blocked by Hasapis.
Hasapis lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Hasapis.
I was talking to Hasapis's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hasapis misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hasapis works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Davis blocking some punches.
A shot in the inside from Hasapis.
Davis throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Hasapiss head.
Davis tries to circle away but Hasapis has him pinned against the cage.
Hasapis misses with a punch on the inside.
Davis swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Hasapis is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Davis pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Good body shot from Hasapis.
Hasapis working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Davis is pressed up against the cage. Hasapis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Davis down to the mat. Davis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hasapis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Davis.
Hasapis was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Davis forces Hasapis back against the cage and clinches.
A right hook to the body lands for Hasapis.
A right hand to the body from Davis.
Hasapis swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Davis scores with a nice hook to the head.
Hasapis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Davis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fotos Hasapis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Davis breaks the clinch.
Davis throws a hook but Hasapis avoids it easily.
Hasapis tries to move into range but Davis moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Donk. Davis catches Hasapis right on the button with a cross.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Davis throws an off balance right hand
and Hasapis counters with a straight right hand.
Davis connects with a jab.

Hasapis drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hasapis postures up in Davis's guard and throws a big left but Davis blocks it.
Davis working a defensive guard but Hasapis passes into half guard.
Davis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hasapis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hasapis's back!
Davis is hanging on to Hasapis's back as he tries to escape.
Hasapis manages to reverse the position and now he's in Davis's guard. Nice work there by Hasapis.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Davis wants to improve his position but instead Hasapis has moved into half guard.
Hasapis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Hasapis drops an elbow to the side of Davis's head.
Davis is trying to control but can't.
Hasapis working Davis over with strikes.
Hasapis lands strikes from half guard.
Hasapis lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hasapis scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hasapis throws a strike but Davis avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Davis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hasapis manages to get himself to full guard.


Davis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hasapis has an active guard here but Davis has managed to pass into half guard.
Hasapis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fotos Hasapis will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Davis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hasapis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hasapis on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Hasapis takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

It looks like Fotos Hasapis has been cut.
Hasapis fails to land the takedown.
Davis takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Davis uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hasapis.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Hasapis paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
A big left from Davis misses.
Hasapis throws a nice looking combination but Davis bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hasapis shoots in looking for a takedown but Davis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hasapis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Davis tries to clinch but Hasapis moves out of range.
An attempted straight right counter from Hasapis misses the target.
Hasapis slips a jab from Davis.
Hasapis tests Davis's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Davis throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davis misses with a straight left.
Davis pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Davis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hasapis manages to avoid it.
Hasapis misses with a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Davis tries to clinch there but Hasapis circles away.
Hasapis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hasapis steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Davis.
Hasapis connects with a good right hand that stumbles Davis. Davis circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hasapis misses with a two punch combination.
Davis misses with a left hand
and Hasapis counters with a nice uppercut.
Hasapis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Hasapis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Davis sprawls well initially but Hasapis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Davis tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Hasapis manages to move to mount!
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hasapis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Davis is trying to escape the mount.
Hasapis lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Hasapis misses with a head shot.
Davis is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hasapis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hasapis putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Hasapis trying to control but Davis is having none of it.

Hasapis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Davis has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Davis!

Hasapis has an active guard here but Davis has managed to pass into half guard.
Fotos Hasapis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hasapis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hasapis.

Davis is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Hasapis has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Davis is looking to defend but Hasapis has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Davis! Hasapis pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Davis taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Fotos Hasapis!
