PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Rozhkov (ranked 35 p4p, 79 weight class) and Bugsy Seigel (ranked 8 p4p, 15 weight class). Seigel has chosen Paradise City - Guns N' Roses as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Rozhkov!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Bugsy Seigel!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rozhkov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Seigel.
Rozhkov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Seigel tries to avoid it but Rozhkov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Seigel to the ground. Seigel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rozhkov lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Seigel throws a chopping leg kick but Rozhkov manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Seigel takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Rozhkov scores with a one two! Seigel had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Rozhkov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Seigel.
Seigel lands a slapping body shot.
Rozhkov misses with a takedown attempt - Seigel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A nice side step and Seigel releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Rozhkov drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

It looks like Alexander Rozhkov has been cut.

Rozhkov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rozhkov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rozhkov wants to control but Seigel is keeping him busy.
Seigel is trying to control Rozhkov's posture but Rozhkov avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Seigel tries to bench press Rozhkov off him but Rozhkov keeps the position.

Seigel tries to escape but Rozhkov is in control.
You can see the frustration on Seigel's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Seigel is trying to improve his position.
Seigel is working to avoid the ground and pound but Rozhkov connects with a decent elbow.
Seigel bucks up and tries to throw Rozhkov off but instead Rozhkov has got his back!

Rozhkov has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Seigel has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Rozhkov is working the ground and pound. Can Seigel escape?

Rozhkov is trying to stick to Seigel's back but Seigel is turning into Rozhkov. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Rozhkov's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Seigel.

Seigel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Seigel is continuing to stall.
Seigel wants to pass the guard but Rozhkov is keeping the position.

Seigel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rozhkov lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rozhkov is in close to Seigel's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Rozhkov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rozhkov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Seigel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rozhkov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rozhkov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rozhkov.
Rozhkov tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Seigel wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Rozhkov's closed guard. He's half up but Rozhkov has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Rozhkov pivots and extends the arm, Seigel falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Rozhkov! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alexander Rozhkov!

An out of breath Alexander Rozhkov thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
