PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Deanthony Pederson (ranked 384 p4p, 821 weight class) and Grant Hyde (ranked 49 p4p, 102 weight class). Hyde has chosen Darkside-Neoni as his entrance music. Grant Hyde is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Deanthony Pederson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Grant Hyde!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pederson moves forwards but Hyde connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Hyde avoids the body shot from Pederson.
Hyde fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pederson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Pederson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hyde moves away.
Pederson shoots in looking for a takedown. Hyde tries to sprawl out of it but Pederson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hyde manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hyde steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pederson.
Hyde looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pederson missing with a left hand there. Hyde was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

We've been hearing reports that Pederson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Pederson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hyde doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pederson.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Pederson seems to be working for a kimura but Hyde defends the submission attempt.

and Pederson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hyde's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pederson misses with a looping left.
Pederson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hyde as he jumps to the side.
Hyde misses with a hook. Pederson ducked under it nicely.
Grant Hyde seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice uppercut there from Pederson.
Hyde misses with an uppercut. Pederson saw that one coming.
Hyde swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hyde stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hyde cracks Pederson with a good jab.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Deanthony Pederson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pederson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pederson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hyde really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pederson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hyde seems a little lost for a moment, as Pederson dominates the positioning.
Pederson misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Pederson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hyde is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hyde is not content to let Pederson control the position.
Pederson prevents Hyde from escaping the position.
Pederson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hyde keeps working.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hyde wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Grant Hyde will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The crowd cheers as Pederson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Hyde doesn't seem phased though.

Pederson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hyde tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pederson is in Hyde's guard.

Hyde gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Pederson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Hyde is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Hyde and Pederson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Pederson has hold of Hyde's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Hyde seems comfortable defending it but Pederson has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Hyde is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Hyde is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Pederson couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Deanthony Pederson!
Deanthony Pederson spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
