PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ingo Szopa (ranked 1070 p4p, 1478 weight class) and Jim Lingfield (ranked 151 p4p, 193 weight class). Jim Lingfield told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ingo Szopa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Lingfield!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lingfield avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Lingfield moves out of range as Szopa strikes.
Szopa swings widly with a right hand

and Lingfield counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lingfield working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Lingfield is looking to advance position but Szopa won't allow it.
Lingfield wants to lay and pray for a moment but Szopa keeps working.

Lingfield is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Szopa is just riding it out for now. Lingfield eventually gives up the hold.

Lingfield is working for a kimura but Szopa is defending it quite comfortably.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lingfield looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lingfield working over Szopa with some ground and pound. Szopa looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Lingfield works his way into full mount!
Szopa is squirming around, avoiding Lingfield's attempts to control the action.
The referee warns Szopa that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Szopa is wriggling around trying to escape.
Szopa takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Lingfield controlling from the full mount.
Szopa's coaches at Death By Snu Snu have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Lingfield postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Szopa looks a forlorn figure.
Szopa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lingfield on the ground.
Szopa keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lingfield pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Lingfield lands a nice shot to the head.
Lingfield connects with a bit shot that sees Szopa covering up! More strikes from Lingfield and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Lingfield is our winner by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Lingfield!
Jim Lingfield spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
