Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kamil Marek (ranked 242 p4p, 998 weight class) and Everett Covington (ranked 31 p4p, 135 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kamil Marek! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Everett Covington! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Covington moves into the clinch. I was talking to Marek's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Marek scores with an uppercut up the middle. Covington breaks from the clinch.
Marek throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Covington rushes Marek and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. A nice left hand lands by Marek.
Covington slowing the pace effectively. Covington wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Marek blocks an elbow strike. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Covington creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Marek cracks Covington with a nice body shot. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Covington takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. A short left from Marek.

A head punch on the inside from Covington fails to land. Marek lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Marek has picked Covington up - he's going for a ride! Marek dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Covington is looking for a sweep. Marek is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Marek is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Covington is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Marek's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Marek's back! This has been an exciting period of action! Covington not allowing Marek to control his hands.

Covington is landing with strikes. Marek can't take much more of this. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Marek staying busy and making it hard for Covington to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Marek tries to escape but Covington has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Covington lands shots from the back. Covington throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Marek!

Everett Covington dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Covington throws a predictable looking body shot
and Marek makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Covington uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Marek.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Covington crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Marek - the referee stops the clock and Covington gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Marek. Covington manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Marek throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Covington sees it coming and avoids it easily. Good exchange - Marek coming out on top. Marek misses with a wild combination.
Covington steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Marek. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marek walks into a stiff left hand from Covington. Covington punishes Marek's body with a nice straight punch.

Covington has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Covington shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Marek but Marek pushes him off and we're back to square one. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Covington can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Covington takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Marek gets control of Covington's arms and successfully pulls guard. Marek will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. An out of breath Kamil Marek thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. Everett Covington spoke after the fight, saying 'Aw crap!'.
