Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Campbell (ranked 1699 p4p, 3657 weight class) and William Kidd (ranked 215 p4p, 387 weight class). Kidd comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hoist The Colours kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Campbell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, William Kidd! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A big right from Kidd misses. Campbell is looking to counter the offense by Kidd and move into the clinch. Kidd cracks a nice hook into Campbell's ribs. Kidd lands with a shot to the body. Kidd pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Campbell back to the cage. Kidd follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. A left and a right from Kidd both land. Nice combination. Kidd misses with a combination
and Campbell counters by moving into the clinch. Campbell definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Kidd can't break the clinch.

Kidd throws a wild combination but nothing lands. As Kidd tries to get set, Campbell tries to push him back and clinch up but Kidd manages to avoid the attempt. Kidd takes a swing at Campbell's ribcage but misses. Campbell tries to counter by clinching up but Kidd breaks away and moves out of range. Kidd scores with a one two! Campbell had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kidd lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kidd's jab looks to have found its range, popping Campbell under the eye. A combination from Kidd does no damage. Nice body punch from Kidd. Kidd falls off balance throwing a combination
and Campbell counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Campbell. Campbell jumps guard but Kidd turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Kidd is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Campbell is trying to pull guard but Kidd has him pressed against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Campbell. That's going to take a lot out of him. Campbell fails to pull guard.

Campbell prevents Kidd from breaking the clinch. Kidd's coach down at 3Band MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kidd's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Campbell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kidd just stands there and leans against the cage. Campbell jumps guard but Kidd stands there with Campbell around his waist. Campbell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kidd manages to break the clinch.
Kidd looks to land a combination but Campbell avoids it well. Campbell tries to counter by clinching up but Kidd breaks away and moves out of range. Kidd lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Campbell manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Campbell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kidd can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Campbell has his foot on Kidd's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kidd works his way back into a safe position though. Campbell is looking for a triangle but Kidd pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Campbell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kidd is one step ahead there. Campbell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kidd wants to get up but he can't break Campbell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Campbell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kidd would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Campbell is looking for a triangle but Kidd pushes his legs off easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Campbell is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Kidd has his hands clasped together but Campbell extends and breaks Kidd's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Campbell.
