Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Babcock (ranked 166 p4p, 127 weight class) and D.C. Benny (ranked 23 p4p, 17 weight class). Babcock kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is San Francisco Live Medley. Benny has chosen D.C. Benny - Unagi Standup Bit as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, D.C. Benny!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benny on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Benny has managed to clinch.
Babcock misses with a punch to the body.
Benny doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A body shot lands from Babcock.

Babcock pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Benny misses with a low kick.
Babcock feints and then cracks Benny's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Benny down.
Benny tried to score with a low kick but Babcock checks it.
Babcock takes a swing at Benny's ribcage but misses.
Benny fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Babcock tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Donk. Babcock catches Benny right on the button with a cross.
Babcock keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Babcock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Benny was well out of range. Poor timing from Babcock.
Benny throws a shot from downtown. Babcock moves away and avoids it.
Benny lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Benny misses with a looping left.
Babcock throws a leg kick but Benny sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Benny tries a quick counter leg kick but Babcock is wise to it.

Benny tries to clinch but Babcock is having none of it.
Babcock throws a quick counter kick to the body but Benny avoids it.
Babcock tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Benny lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Benny uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Babcock.

A bone on bone clash there as Benny blocks the leg kick.
Babcock lands a lovely overhand right.
Benny turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Benny throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Babcock sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Babcock throws out a leg kick but Benny moves out of range and Babcock only half commits.
A nice leg kick from Babcock, right into the meat of the thigh.
Babcock looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Benny takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Babcock avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Benny has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Benny takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Benny moves out of range as Babcock strikes.
Benny looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Babcock throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Babcock misses with a kick to the body.
Good leg kick by Babcock.
Babcock listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Benny moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Babcock connects with a body shot.
Babcock throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Babcock takes the fight into the clinch.
Benny lands a nice shot to the body.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Babcock.
I was talking to Babcock's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Benny lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Benny works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Babcock tries to work over Benny's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Benny has a couple of punches blocked by Babcock.

A head punch on the inside from Benny fails to land.
Babcock goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Benny works on Babcock's body with a couple of short punches.

Benny fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Babcock tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Benny's elbow.
A right handed body shot lands from Benny.
A short right from Benny on the inside.
Babcock misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Benny doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Benny drags the fight down to the ground.
Babcock trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Benny wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Babcock working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Benny's head.

Benny working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Babcock doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Babcock manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Benny is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Benny is looking for a triangle but Babcock pushes his legs off easily.
Babcock pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Benny is keeping the position for now.

Benny has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Babcock should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Benny has tightened it up now! Babcock should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

After the fight, D.C. Benny was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
