PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Heismann Haa (ranked 389 p4p, 1092 weight class) and Frank Rizzo (ranked 29 p4p, 86 weight class). Haa comes to the cage accompanied by Her kommer Heismann Hå. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Heismann Haa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frank Rizzo!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizzo scores with a shot to the body.

Rizzo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rizzo lands in his opponent's guard.
Haa keeping moving, preventing Rizzo from controlling successfully.
Haa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rizzo trying to control but Haa is working from the bottom.
Rizzo looking to sit in guard and control but Haa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rizzo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rizzo has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at St Petersburg MMA Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Haa passes into side control, despite Rizzo's attempt to control the position.
Rizzo is looking to regain half guard here but Haa keeps moving and retains side control.

Rizzo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Haa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rizzo somewhat.
Haa looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rizzo.
Haa tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rizzo cracks Haa with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Haa gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Rizzo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Haa attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Frank Rizzo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Haa jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Haa is fighting off a takedown attempt but Rizzo is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Haa to the mat. Haa regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Heismann Haa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Haa continues to stall.
Rizzo is looking for a sweep. Haa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Haa working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Rizzo's thigh. Rizzo counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Haa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Haa is fighting to break Rizzo's control of his arms but Rizzo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Haa fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Haa walks into a straight right hand from Rizzo.

Haa lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Haa doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Haa swings wildly with an uppercut but Rizzo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rizzo lands a body punch in the clinch.
Haa can't find room to land a body shot as Rizzo controls the action.
Haa tries to throw a body punch but Rizzo avoids it by throwing Haa back against the cage.
Haa is pushing Rizzo up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Haa misses with a shot to the kidneys.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rizzo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

That was a close second round but I would say that Heismann Haa will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Haa throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rizzo sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Haa tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Rizzo is able to avoid easily.
Haa drops his hands momentarily and Rizzo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Haa throws a nice outside leg kick.

Rizzo darts in looking for a takedown but Haa gets double underhooks and turns Rizzo into the cage.

Rizzo tries a body shot but Haa blocks it.

Haa tries to throw a body punch but Rizzo avoids it by throwing Haa back against the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rizzo wants to free his trapped foot but Haa is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Haa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Haa fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Rizzo checks it well.
Haa backing away here, and Rizzo unleashes a leg kick that just misses.

Haa throws out a loose jab but Rizzo uses good head movement to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Frank Rizzo.
I think Rizzo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Frank Rizzo misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
