PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Olyn Seran (ranked 163 p4p, 346 weight class) and John Piercer (ranked 19 p4p, 41 weight class). Seran kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sound of Silence - Disturbed. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 24 - 1, fighting out of New York, Olyn Seran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Piercer!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piercer throws a hook but Seran avoids it easily.
Seran lands a jab to the head.
Seran shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Piercer counters with a nice body shot.
Piercer throws a wild body kick that Seran sees coming a mile off.
Seran fails with a takedown attempt.
Seran throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Piercer misses with a straight right.

and Seran counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Piercer!

Piercer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Seran wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Seran wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Piercer, who protects the arm well.

Seran is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Piercer can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Seran moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Piercer has worked his arm free - good work by Piercer!

Seran tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Seran has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Seran swings around for an armbar but Piercer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Seran's guard.

Seran manages to work his way to half guard, despite Piercer's best efforts.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Piercer's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Olyn Seran will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Seran misses with a body shot.
A nice side step and Piercer releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Piercer throws a jab but it's blocked by Seran.
An inside leg kick lands from Seran.
Piercer digs a good hook to Seran's body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Piercer, as that shot connected.

Piercer has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Piercer there as he acknowledges the shot.
Piercer misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Piercer lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Seran has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Seran and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

so Seran counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Olyn Seran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Seran tries to free his leg and advance position but Piercer is retaining full guard.
Seran is working hard here to advance position.
Piercer has Seran pulled in close to control his posture.
Piercer wants to sweep here but Seran controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Seran goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Piercer has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Seran but great work by Piercer.

Piercer wants to take a breather but Seran manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Piercer.
Seran has a closed guard, preventing Piercer from standing up.
Piercer is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Seran looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Seran is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Piercer is aware though and is defending well.

Seran is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Piercer defends well.
Seran has a closed guard, preventing Piercer from standing up.
Piercer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Piercer passes Seran's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Piercer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Seran with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Seran's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Seran takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Olyn Seran.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Seran, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
