PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Otto McBean (ranked 428 p4p, 667 weight class) and Heismann Haa (ranked 33 p4p, 55 weight class). Haa comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Her kommer Heismann Hå kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Otto McBean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Heismann Haa!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McBean connects with a right hand. Haa shakes it off.
McBean swings away with a body shot that misses
and Haa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

It looks like Otto McBean has been cut.
McBean looks for a takedown but Haa sprawls well.
McBean gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Haa counters with a stiff right hand.

McBean forces Haa back against the cage and clinches.
A head punch on the inside from Haa fails to land.
McBean is trying to pull guard but Haa has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Otto McBean. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Haa manages to break the clinch.
McBean connects with a nice looking jab.

McBean closes the distance and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Haa breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Haa throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Haa connects with a looping right hand.
Heismann Haa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
McBean is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Haa.
Haa moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
McBean shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Haa defends it nicely.
McBean misses with the combination.
Haa dips to his left and cracks McBean with an uppercut!

McBean scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

McBean is looking for a kimura here.
McBean trying to pass the guard but Haa defending well.

McBean thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Haa's head.
Haa gets back to full guard.
Haa has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but McBean has passed into side control.

McBean swings around for an armbar but Haa sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McBean's guard.

McBean throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Haa escapes and throws McBean's legs to the side, diving into side control!
McBean struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee asks Haa politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Haa prefers to stall for the moment though.
McBean tries to bench press Haa off him but Haa keeps the position.
Haa is staying tight to McBean's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Heismann Haa dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Otto McBean's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

McBean scores with a hook to the body. Haa takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
McBean ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
McBean fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McBean throws a body punch but Haa moves out of range.
McBean slips a straight right by Haa.
An attempted straight right counter from McBean misses the target.
McBean bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Haa's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Haa thows a leg kick but McBean checks it

and McBean counters with a nice double leg into guard.

McBean looking to sit in guard and control but Haa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

McBean is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Haa defends well.
Haa stays in close to McBean's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McBean keeping full guard, as Haa tries to pass.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

McBean looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Haa passes into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McBean is trying to control Haa's posture but Haa avoids it.
Haa is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down McBean's shoulder. That is not cool.

McBean is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on McBean's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Haa takes a little break here. McBean wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McBean can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Haa is looking to land body kicks.
McBean throws a hook to the side of Haa's head but Haa sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A little jabbing left from Haa on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
McBean fails to land the takedown.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McBean tries to clinch but Haa moves out of range.
McBean tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Haa was well out of range. Poor timing from McBean.
Haa looks like he wants to counter punch here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Otto McBean will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Otto McBean's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Haa misses with a right hand
and McBean counters with a stiff right hand.
Haa has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
A left and a right from McBean both land. Nice combination.
Heismann Haa seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Haa takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
McBean moves in looking to clinch but Haa pushes him off.
McBean bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
McBean feinted with a counter takedown.
Haa throws a quick inside leg kick.
McBean takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McBean lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
McBean's jab looks to have found its range, popping Haa under the eye.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McBean is looking to stall here but Haa recovers full guard.
Haa pulls McBean in close to prevent any damage.
McBean trying to control the position from guard on top but Haa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McBean stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Haa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McBean trying to control but Haa is working from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Otto McBean overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McBean looking to sit in guard and control but Haa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Haa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

McBean looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Haa passes into half guard.

McBean is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Haa pulls his head out easily.
McBean has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Haa is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Haa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McBean moves into full guard.

McBean looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

McBean throws his legs up looking for a submission but Haa uses it to pass to side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Otto McBean showed his dominance in that final round.
I think McBean has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
