Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amri Mbeki (ranked 2129 p4p, 4218 weight class) and Vern Vurris (ranked 112 p4p, 0 weight class). Mbeki's entrance music is Intro. A fine choice. Vurris has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Vern Vurris acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mbeki shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Mbeki content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Mbeki is working for a kimura but Vurris is defending it quite comfortably.
Vurris wants to improve his position but Mbeki is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mbeki has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Vurris has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mbeki is working away from the top position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mbeki shoots in but Vurris avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Vurris is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Mbeki with a body shot.
Vurris throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mbeki shoots for a double leg takedown but Vurris sprawls well. He's pushed Mbeki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vurris cracks Mbeki with a right hand to the side of the head.

Vurris fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mbeki, pushing him back against the cage.
Vurris looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Vurris wants to break free but Mbeki has control.

Mbeki's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

A countering left hand to the body from Vurris misses.

It looks like Vern Vurris has been cut.
Mbeki jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Vurris only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Vurris ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Vurris throws a body punch but Mbeki moves out of range.
Vurris shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mbeki defends it nicely.
Mbeki feinted with a counter takedown.

Horrible takedown attempt by Vurris or perhaps it was just good defense by Mbeki, which made it look bad.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vurris tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mbeki content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Vurris is trying to improve his position.

Mbeki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vurris is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Vurris tries to buck Mbeki off but Mbeki is having none of it.

Mbeki in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Vurris is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
