Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Valdo Calamari (ranked 42 p4p, 263 weight class) and Bubba Rolls (ranked 7 p4p, 36 weight class). Calamari comes into the arena with Bellini - Samba Do Brasil blaring out of the sound system. Rolls has chosen Moonshine Bandits - For The Outlawz as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Valdo Calamari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bubba Rolls!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rolls waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Calamari.
Rolls throws an off balance right hand
and Rolls takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rolls uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Calamari.
Rolls throws a jab when Calamari was well out of range.
Calamari fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rolls manages to avoid it.
Calamari sets himself, and Rolls steps forward looking for the clinch! Calamari avoids it this time.
Calamari tries to bum rush Rolls with a series of wild strikes but Rolls uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bubba Rolls seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rolls looks to throw the jab but Calamari is out of range.
Calamari lands a nice looking body shot.
Calamari takes one on the button.
Calamari keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rolls looks to throw the jab but Calamari is out of range.
A quick step to the side and Calamari tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rolls rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Calamari counters with a left to the body.
A combination from Calamari does no damage.
We've been hearing reports that Calamari has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

and Calamari counters with a stiff right hand.
Calamari has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rolls finds it's way round the side to connect with Calamari's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Calamari looks to score with a jab to the body but Rolls is just out of range.
Rolls throws out a counter right but Calamari avoids it with no problem.

Rolls shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rolls was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rolls wants to lay and pray for a moment but Calamari keeps working.
Calamari tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Calamari gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Calamari tries to hold on but Rolls pushes him away.

Calamari is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rolls misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Rolls throws some wild stikes that Calamari manages to avoid easily.
Calamari in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rolls is looking to work his way around to Calamari's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Rolls wants to control the pace but Calamari is squirming around nicely.
Rolls manages to capitalize on a mistake by Calamari to take his back!

Calamari trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Rolls has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Calamari's body.
Calamari can't escape the position.
Our spies down at at Far-Q Fight Club inform us that Rolls has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Rolls has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Calamari is defending well but eventually Rolls manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Calamari has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Bubba Rolls!
Bubba Rolls seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
