Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lyman Hicks (ranked 281 p4p, 1333 weight class) and Jonathas Araujo (ranked 29 p4p, 122 weight class). Hicks's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyman Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathas Araujo!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hicks defending well as Araujo loads up on a big left hand.
Araujo avoids the body shot from Hicks.
Good standup being displayed there by Hicks as he connects with a hook.
Hicks tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Araujo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hicks cracks Araujo with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Araujo ducks under a wild hook from Hicks.
A jab lands there for Hicks.
Araujo throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Hicks counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
No luck for Araujo with that takedown attempt.
Hicks stuffs the takedown attempt from Araujo. Araujo gets slowly back to his feet.
Hicks is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Hicks misses with a body punch
and Araujo counters with a stiff right hand.
Hicks connects with a nice looking jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hicks pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Araujo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hicks swivels and escapes.
Lyman Hicks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathas Araujo.

Hicks stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hicks throws a hook but Araujo blocks it.
Hicks throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Araujo sees it coming and avoids it easily.
It seemed like Araujo was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Hicks clobbers Araujo with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Araujo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hicks napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hicks tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Araujo looking to take Hicks's back but Hicks rolls and after a scramble, Hicks ends up on top in guard. Nice escape there from Hicks to escape a tricky position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hicks throws a big elbow that misses.
Araujo managing to control the position.

Araujo is pulling down on Hicks's head to control his posture.
Hicks won't allow Araujo to sweep him here.

Araujo is adopting a defensive guard.
Hicks controlling from the top position.
Araujo controls Hicks momentarily but Hicks frees himself.
Hicks wants to stand but Araujo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Our spies down at at MMA Training and Sparring Buddies inform us that Araujo has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hicks looking to sit in guard and control but Araujo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Araujo wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving.
Araujo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hicks is keeping the position for now.
Hicks wants to sweep but no luck.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hicks connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hicks throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Araujo misses with a takedown attempt - Hicks sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Araujo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hicks throws an off balance right hand
and Hicks takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nice uppercut lands for Hicks. That snapped Araujo's head back.
Hicks tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've been told by Hicks's head coaches at Kalashnikov ELITE MMA Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hicks misses with a hook. Araujo ducked under it nicely.
Hicks jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hicks connects with a body shot.
Hicks is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Hicks cracks a nice hook into Araujo's ribs.
Araujo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Araujo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hicks sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hicks throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Araujo on the side of the head.
Hicks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Araujo.
Lyman Hicks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathas Araujo.
Araujo takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

and Hicks counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lyman Hicks is winning the standup battle so far.

Araujo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Araujo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hicks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hicks holds on and takes a little breather.
Araujo wants to pass the guard but Hicks is keeping the position.
Hicks wants to control but Araujo passes easily into half guard.

Araujo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hicks is just riding it out for now. Araujo eventually gives up the hold.

Hicks is looking to control Araujo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hicks avoid being mounted?

Araujo seems to be working for a kimura but Hicks defends the submission attempt.
Araujo wants to free his trapped foot but Hicks is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jonathas Araujo has got the better of the ground game so far.

Araujo is trying to improve position by moving to mount. Hicks has hold of his neck though and manages to move into guard! All of a sudden, Araujo is in a lot of trouble! Hicks is straining to finish and he's done it! Araujo taps out! Amazing!
