PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bofur Widenose (ranked 635 p4p, 1056 weight class) and Nikolai Kaspersky (ranked 83 p4p, 139 weight class). Nikolai Kaspersky will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bofur Widenose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nikolai Kaspersky!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Widenose tries to clinch but Kaspersky moves away

and Kaspersky decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Widenose's guard.

Widenose had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kaspersky defends it easily.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kaspersky working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Widenose preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Widenose might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kaspersky sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Widenose bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kaspersky's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Widenose has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Widenose is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kaspersky defends it well.
Kaspersky keeps control of the position for the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kaspersky is refusing to be controlled, as Widenose sits in half guard.
Widenose is looking to advance position but Kaspersky won't allow it.

Widenose closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kaspersky did well to prevent Widenose getting side control.

Kaspersky is looking to control Widenose's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kaspersky avoid being mounted?
Widenose wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kaspersky keeps working.

Kaspersky has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Widenose is working away from the top position though.

Widenose is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kaspersky has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kaspersky!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Widenose is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kaspersky is looking to control Widenose's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kaspersky avoid being mounted?
Kaspersky throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Kaspersky wants to control but Widenose is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Widenose is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kaspersky can do to turn this around?

Widenose looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kaspersky with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Widenose wants to take a breather but Kaspersky is having none of it.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kaspersky throws a jab but it's blocked by Widenose.
Kaspersky clobbers Widenose with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Widenose wants to take the fight to the mat but Kaspersky manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Widenose shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kaspersky as he jumps to the side.

Widenose moves out of range as Kaspersky strikes.
Widenose throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kaspersky's waist but Kaspersky gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Widenose off to one side.
Kaspersky throws out a loose jab but Widenose uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kaspersky shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nikolai Kaspersky comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Widenose has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
