Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Javier Arroyo (ranked 400 p4p, 472 weight class) and Curtis Rome (ranked 48 p4p, 55 weight class). Curtis Rome acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Javier Arroyo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 23 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arroyo throws a right hand that misses
and Rome counters with a stiff right hand.
Arroyo jabs at Rome's body.
Arroyo misses with a low kick.
Rome takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Good work by Rome as he checks the leg kick.
Arroyo wants to slow Rome down by chopping away at his legs.
Arroyo does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Javier Arroyo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Arroyo scores with a jab. Rome acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Rome scores with a takedown into Arroyo's guard.

Arroyo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rome tries to free his leg and advance position but Arroyo is retaining full guard.
Rome throws an elbow that misses. Arroyo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rome's guard. Nice move by Arroyo!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rome isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Arroyo stacks Rome on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Arroyo!

Rome tries to bench press Arroyo off him but Arroyo keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Rome's face as Arroyo controls the position.
Rome looks to move to half guard but instead Arroyo has passed into mount! Damn!

That was a close round but I would say that Javier Arroyo will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rome drives through with a takedown into Arroyo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Rome is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Arroyo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rome takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Arroyo tries to get to full guard but Rome has control of the leg.

Rome is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Arroyo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arroyo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rome swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Arroyo engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Rome is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Arroyo passes Rome's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Rome tries to roll over but Arroyo keeps him under control.
Arroyo content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Arroyo is trying to control the action in half guard but Rome is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Curtis Rome showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Arroyo is looking to chop away at Rome's legs.
Rome throws out a counter right but Arroyo avoids it with no problem.
Arroyo looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Arroyo lands an overhand right.

Rome dives in and scores a takedown into Arroyo's guard.
Arroyo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rome is one step ahead there.
Rome trying to control but Arroyo is working from the bottom.
Arroyo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rome manages to get himself to full guard.

Arroyo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rome is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
