PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Third Wife (ranked 1805 p4p, 1057 weight class) and Prokop Pustik (ranked 214 p4p, 126 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Third Wife!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Prokop Pustik!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Sosuke Kotani.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pustik blocks a jab.
A nice side step and Pustik releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Wife works the jab nicely.
Wife jabs Pustik right on the nose. Pustik blinks but takes it well.
Wife has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Roosters Coop in the buildup to the fight.
Wife on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Pustik throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wife tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pustik is in Wife's guard.
Pustik stands up over Wife, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Pustik throws a strike but Wife rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pustik has his foot on Wife's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wife works his way back into a safe position though.
Pustik wants to sweep here but Wife controlling him for the moment.

Wife stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Pustik throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Wife sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A big right from Wife misses.
Pustik feints the counter takedown.
Pustik scores with a punch to the head.
Third Wife seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wife tries to keep at a distance but Pustik has taken the fight into the clinch.
Pustik tries to throw a body punch but Wife avoids it by throwing Pustik back against the cage.
Wife lands with a light punch inside.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pustik throws a punch but it's blocked by Wife.
Pustik drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pustik is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Wife gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Pustik has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Pustik lands a shoulder strike.
Pustik makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Wife tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Pustik is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Third Wife has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Prokop Pustik.

Wife gets underhooks to prevent Pustik's takedown attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pustik wants a takedown but no success here.
Wife gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Pustik.
Pustik looking to throw knees to the head but Wife is blocking nicely.

Pustik blocks an uppercut.
Pustik drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Wife blocks a body shot from Pustik.
Pustik tries a body shot but Wife blocks it.
Pustik prevents Wife from breaking the clinch.

Wife escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wife looks to throw the jab but Pustik is out of range.
Wife fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pustik looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Wife misses with a looping left.
Pustik slips under a jab.
Pustik throws a big shot that misses.
Pustik ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Pustik shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Wife napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Wife explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pustik moves away from the strike by Wife.
Pustik doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Wife lands with a shot to the body.
Pustik looks winded!
Wife uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pustik.
Wife just misses with a punch to the body.
Pustik now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Pustik bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Pustik looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Wife scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Pustik takes a jab right on the kisser.

Wife cracks Pustik with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Pustik looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Wife finish him?

Pustik is rocked!
Are you kidding me?! Wife ducked down and unloaded an uppercut from hell that sent Pustik clean off his feet! Someone make me a GIF - that's knockout of the night for sure!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Third Wife!
After the fight, Third Wife was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
