PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maxim Ward (ranked 1359 p4p, 2460 weight class) and Johnny Bronco (ranked 185 p4p, 298 weight class). Ward's entrance music is ERA - Ameno. A fine choice. Bronco has chosen The Horses - Daryl Braithwaite as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Maxim Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 23 - 3, fighting out of New York, Johnny Bronco!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bronco takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Bronco lands with a right hand.
Bronco throws a body shot but no joy.
Ward just misses with a punch to the body.
And Bronco tries to counter it with a takedown but Ward pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Ward defending well as Bronco loads up on a big left hand.
Bronco wants to clinch up but Ward keeps it at a distance.
Ward connects with a leg kick.
Bronco bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ward's head backwards.
Ward keeps the fight on the outside.

Bronco dives in and scores a takedown into Ward's guard.
Ward is looking to stand up but Bronco isn't so interested in that idea.
Bronco trying to control but Ward is working from the bottom.

Ward is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bronco won't allow Ward to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bronco throws a strike but Ward avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Bronco is looking to work some ground and pound but Ward has wrist control.
Bronco prevents Ward from getting back to his feet.

Bronco makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Ward is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ward closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bronco's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bronco takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Ward is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bronco.

Bronco forces Ward back against the cage and clinches.
Nice body punch from Bronco - that landed with a thud.
Ward is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Bronco works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Ward gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Bronco working for submissions but it's allowed Ward to get to half guard.

Ward is looking to take a break and control but Bronco is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Maxim Ward will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Ward's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Bronco connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Ward scrambles back to his feet.
Bronco gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Ward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ward is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bronco can do to turn this around?
Ward won't allow Bronco to sweep him here.
Ward is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Ward got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bronco has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ward has managed to get both his arms back between Bronco's legs - danger averted.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bronco had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ward defends it easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ward darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Bronco avoids the body shot from Ward.
Nice shot by Ward.
Bronco swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ward went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
No luck for Bronco with that takedown attempt.
Ward changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Nice uppercut there from Ward.
Bronco on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Bronco is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Bronco wants to clinch up but Ward keeps it at a distance.
Ward connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bronco. Bronco circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bronco lands with an uppercut that bounces Ward off the cage and back into range.
Good exchange - Ward coming out on top.
Ward swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ward circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ward is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
A slow jab from Bronco misses its intended target.
A quick step to the side and Ward tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bronco walks into a stiff left hand from Ward.
Bronco takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Bronco manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ward on his heels. He'll look to pass Ward's guard now, I'm sure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bronco accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bronco throws a big right hand that misses.
Bronco throws an elbow that misses. Ward uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bronco's guard. Nice move by Ward!

Ward seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bronco for as long as he can get away with.

Bronco is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bronco looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Bronco loads up on a big right hand but Ward slips the punch.
Maxim Ward is winning the standup battle so far.
Ward catches Bronco with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Ward lands with an overhand left.
Bronco lands the left hand.
Ward feints a jab promting Bronco to slip. Ward then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Bronco slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Bronco tries to clinch up but Ward circles away and keeps his distance.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Ward. Bronco shrugs it off though.
A solid leg kick lands there for Ward.
Ward looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Ward misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ward throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Bronco on the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A jab from Ward finds it's way through Bronco's defenses.
Ward keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ward feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ward, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Maxim Ward rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
