PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lars Kay (ranked 661 p4p, 916 weight class) and Peter Dinklage (ranked 54 p4p, 76 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lars Kay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Dinklage!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Kay.
Dinklage throws a lazy uppercut

and Kay counters with a takedown into side control.
Dinklage felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Dinklage holds on to Kay's head and controls the position momentarily.
Kay with the ground and pound but Dinklage regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Kay takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Dinklage tries to kick Kay off but Kay keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kay working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Dinklage regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kay.
Kay throws a strike but Dinklage rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kay is striking but Dinklage is not phased and passes to half guard.
Dinklage uses his free foot to push down on Kay's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kay.

Kay is trying to reverse the position but instead Dinklage has taken his back - oops!
I really don't envy Kay right now.
Kay is working hard here to advance position.
Dinklage slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Kay is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Dinklage really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Kay.

Dinklage has the hooks in. Kay is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dinklage is riding his opponent, not letting Kay buck him off.
Dinklage controlling well, preventing Kay from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Kay is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dinklage just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Kay throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kay connects with a right hand. Dinklage shakes it off.
Kay swings for the body but Dinklage moves out of range.
Dinklage steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kay.
A little jabbing left from Dinklage on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kay ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Lars Kay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slow jab from Kay misses its intended target.
Dinklage walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Dinklage misses with a body shot.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Dinklage in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Dinklage, as that shot connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kay dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kay avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Dinklage works Kay's body with a nice hook.

and Dinklage connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Dinklage closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Nice sprawl there from Dinklage as Kay shoots in.
Dinklage let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Kay throws a looping overhand right but Dinklage ducks down to avoid it.
Kay uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dinklage.
Kay feinted with a counter takedown.
Dinklage stuffs the takedown attempt from Kay. Kay gets slowly back to his feet.
Kay darts in looking for a takedown but Dinklage gets double underhooks and turns Kay into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lars Kay. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dinklage has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kay is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Kay fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dinklage manages to avoid it.

and Dinklage connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Dinklage displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kay throws out the jab.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Dinklage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Oooooh!!! Dinklage has knocked Kay down with a huge combo! Dinklage steps away and waves a wobbly Kay back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Kay is still looking wobbly from the end of the last round!

It looks like Lars Kay has been cut.
Kay doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Dinklage scores with a counter punch that sends Kay to the canvas! Dinklage smells blood - he's punishing Kay with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Kay has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

During a confident post fight interview, Peter Dinklage thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
